I am currently trying to help a buddy of mine with his seagate barracuda 120gig hard drive. He has a Asus AV8 mobo, AMD Athlon 64 3200 Venice cpu. Basically, his motherboard is not noticing the hard drive, it is connected properly, starts fine. Any suggestions? Thanks
 
Check that SATA is enabled in the BIOS and then you'll probably have to set the drive up as a JDOB drive in the RAID BIOS. The drive itself probably won't show up in the main BIOS, but instead in the RAID BIOS utility (that's how my Nforce 4 and SIL3114 chips are).
 
Hi, im the guy hes trying to help. I am in the BIOS screen right now and my friend said to check if the main/slave are mixed up. Also, I am having trouble navigating the RAID bios screen. I can access it, but I cannot move or access any of the sub screens. What should I do?

SATA doesn't have master/slave settings. Every drive runs on it's own separate channel so that's not an issue.

As for the BIOS screen...are you sure you're just not hitting the right keys. Some navigate with arrow keys, some with the tab button, or some other crazy key combination.
 
Do you think if I bought an SATA to IDE adapter that it would be recognized? Do you think its a problem with the SATA connections? Well, I tried to install windows xp OS and it says there is no hard drives connected, which there are. I went into the RAID bios screen and it shows the freakin hard drive, but when I try to install, there isnt. Does anyone know what the key combination to move in the RAID bios screen of the A8V asus motherboard? And does anyone have any suggestions regarding me getting Windows XP installed even though it doesnt find any HDD? Sigh..This is really starting to piss me off, ive spent 16 hours trying to fix it...PLEASE help!!! :D

In the RAID BIOS, setup the drive as a JBOD/spanning/single drive (whichever wording it wants to use). When installing Windows you might (but shouldn't) need a driver disk. At the first blue screen duing the install process it'll say something about 'hit F6 to use 3rd part raid or scsi drivers...'. That's when you hit F6 and load the RAID drivers off the floppy.
 
Well what floppy am I using? I didnt recieve and floppy to use. If youre talking about me using my mobo setup CD for the drivers, I need an up to date floppy drive, cause I didnt buy one for my new computer. Yeah dumb idea, I know. I am still having problems navigating the RAID bios menu. Any help there? Well the error I get when using my floppy is seek error or write protection ( I tried it with both positions with that little square, oh I did. ) Im sorry if im just being dense, and I dont really understand. First time building a computer, and im surprised this is the only thing that went wrong.

Boards almost never include the damned driver floppies so you have to make them yourself. You can download the drivers off the manufacturer's website or sometimes you can make them using the driver CD that's included.

Navigating a RAID BIOS is different for each one. Just read the manual or something. Usually at the bottom of the screen it'll say "Tab for next object" or "Use arrow keys to select..." or something along those lines.
 
OK, Dude.
Here's how you got screwed.
The A8V only has RAID SATA connectors. Not independant SATA and RAID SATA like the Intel chipset motherboards do.

According to your manual on page 5-11 you've got to do the following.

Hit "TAB" during POST to get into the RAID Controller setup.
Create an Array. It's got an Auto Creation Utility. And I know It's Just a single drive.
When the array is completed, save everything, exit the utility and reboot.
Enter the System BIOS by pressing "Delete" during the POST and configure your boot devices and orders correctly.
1 Floppy
2 CD/DVD
3 Hard Drive or RAID

This is kinda of the standard order for a new rig....You can change it after you get the OS installed.

You've got to have a floppy to install the RAID drivers during the Windows setup.
As soon as it starts hit F6 repetedly until it tells you to hit F2 for something else.
Follow the directions to specify a new device on the floppy. I know, it sux, just borrow a floppy drive from another computer until you get windows installed. Microsoft SAYS that their gonna offer new options for this....but they never have.

Install windows and be happy.

WHAT THE F*CK DOES Error reading from drive B: DOS area : drive not ready mean?!?! I KEEP GETTING THIS ERROR WHEN TRYING TO MAKE MY VIA 6240 RAID 32/64bit Driver disk! What does this mean?! PLEASE HELP! Ive had my new comp for 2 weeks and I still havent set it up! :( Pleasee this is urgent
 
HOW DO I BOOT FROM A FLOPPY?! I downloaded this tool to a floppy from the seagate website to format a HD, but when it boots, I cant see the tool? what the hell. Im going to freakin kill someone
 
First off...the caps lock button is not your friend. Second, go into the BIOS and if necessary change the boot order so that the floppy drive is first.
 
ok, tried that, and I boot up, get the black screen with the flashing underscore, soorry about caps, getting angry, and um it just goes down 2 spaces and does the underscore thing again
