Hard Disk Partition missing space . . .

Hi, I've got a problem with one of my hard disk partitions. When I click on the drive, it says that I only have 1.8 GB of space left on that partition but when I select all the files and folders on the drive it only shows 17.4GB. It's a 25GB partition. What happened to the rest?

Any help would be be appreciated, thanks (again, Hard Drives = not my specialty )

Oh and the filesystem is FAT32 (yeah I know FAT sux, but I didn't want to mess with it)

that's interesting, hard drives aren't my specialty either, but i can totally relate to not wanting to mess with an existing FAT partition. when i upgraded my rig, i brought my FAT 120gb hard drive over to the new system, after everything was set up I used partition magic convert the drive partitions to NTFS, (it was split 80/40) the first half converted over fine, but then it locked up in the middle of the second and took both halves with it....

i still feel like i'm gonna vomit when i think about it too long, so much stuff, oh dear god....

oh just a thought; is there a swap file or some other large system related file on the partition? windows tends to give funky readouts in regaurds to drive space when it involves system files like that. either that or it wants to die.

Don't think there's any large swap files on it. All I know is, some weird stuff started to happen just a few minutes ago. First I got a "low disk space" warning on my taskbar for that partition and I checked it and saw that it only had like 200 MB left. Now, I know it read at least 4.5 GB free just about the last time I checked (which was like an hour ago) Then something even stranger happened. I started refreshing the explorer window and my status bar showed that the free space in that partition increased, then decreased, then increased. So I opened up Task manager and saw that NOD32Kernal was taking up some CPU, so I ended it and that seemed to end the constant change in free disk space. So now it shows 1.8GB free. Could NOD32 be the cause?

Sorry, I meant NOD32Kernel. I think that's just a library my antivirus program (NOD32) uses . . . yeah it's up to date . . . will do some research though . . .

UPDATE: So apparently it has to do with Firefox causing my NOD32KRN dll to start using up CPU and filling up disk space . . . weird indeed . . .

When I tried to download a certain file in Firefox, I noticed that NOD32KRN.exe immediately started to act up and that my HD space started to decrease. Also when I close Firefox, it didn't exit but rather stayed in my memory. I had to force end it.

BTW, I'm now at 150MB free space . . . with 19.4 GB filled . . .
