Happy Birthday to the Animated GIF

It’s hard to believe that the GIF is celebrating its 26th birthday. The animation on the internet that everyone loves to hate is actually gaining in popularity over the years as the animated GIFs becomes more complex and elaborate.

There were some dark times in here, though. Web 2.0 may have brought with it some GIF holdovers from early days, slapped them onto a handful of new properties – but the onslaught of sites like Facebook did – temporarily – kill the party a little.

I can only associate GIF with GeoCities... Like GeoCities, it should have dissapear a while ago...

To be exact, gif87a is turning 26. Animation wasnt supported until the .89a standard from... 1989.
