A friend of mine just called me asking for some help. I personally helped him get his new Athlon 64 3200+ and motherboard (Can't remember which one it was) installed and it's been about 2 months since and he hasn't had too many problems.

He says his computer starts up but it freezes at the manufacturers splash screen before the BIOS. His keyboard doesn't initialize either since it occurs to fast in the boot cycle. I told him to check all of his connections and make sure all of his fans were running and he says it all checks out. Any suggestions I could give to him?

Most newer motherboards come with some kind of post indicator. If the board isn't even posting or you can't get to the bios menu, then your problem is with the mobo, PSU, or CPU. Try the PSU first...maybe with a spare lying around? If no spare check to make sure all fans are spinning and make sure the HSF is seated correctly so its not overheating. If you have a spare cpu you might try that to attempt to isolate the problem but its hard to isolate without spare parts...

I had something like that happen recently with my DFI Infinity board. I turns out that if I try to boot it up with an external USB drive connected, it hangs. It doesn't even have to be plugged in to power, just connected to the system. Weird, but I was able to reproduce it. Hope you find your problem.

I just had to RMA a Neo 4-F Board here a couple of weeks ago.It was doing the same thing,Hanging at the Splash screen. When it got to the Platinum Screen..it would stay there.I could get it to Boot correctly, only when I cleared the CMOS(Removed the battery) and reset the Settings.But...I had to do this a Lot.So...I sent it back.It appears to be a common hangup with this MOBO.HAve him try to clear the Memory and reboot..Good luck.
