My server has a Q6600 @ 2.5Ghz and it encodes DVD at about 54 FPS (720x480) and Blu-Ray at about 12 FPS (1920x1080).

My i7 920 (stock Ghz) on my main encodes DVD's at 150-190 FPS. I have yet to do Blu-Ray on my main.

Looking to hear what this new i5 3570K can do, to replace my servers Q6600.

Most of the Handbrake benchmarks I have seen have been in Time, which isn't as usefull to me.

your i7 has HT so it would likely be around the same i would think since the 3770 has no HT?

3770/K have HT
3570/K do not have HT

OP, you're confusing everyone. title says 3550K, thread says i5 3770...

i think you just mean i5 3570K, the 4C/4T processor.

Time equals FPS. The higher the FPS the shorter the time. So basically you just need to check performance compared to similar CPU to see how close the two are. FPS means nothing without more information, IQ settings, passes, and so on. Knowing the time it takes to do a task makes it more translatable.

In theory a SB or IB will be tons faster then both if you are using very specific profiles with Quicksync.

Yes, I just read about this Quicksync thing last night. I didn't follow Sandy Bridge too much. Holy hell its amazing!
