Is there a held held size PC , about the size of a Iphone, with a 3g chip ? I saw one running xp pro a few years ago. I don’t know if it had a 3g chip. If you could get g3 service for it, this would be awesome to run Skype with and have no cell/phone plan to pay for.

you have to pay for 3g service on a computer as well...

Yes. I would be willing to pay for 3g data plan on a hand help computer if I could go without the phone plan. They would require a data plan and phone plan for any smart phone I brought to the provider. The verizon store sells tablets and small computers with a data plan and chip inside the computer. These are not phones. But they are too big for my desire. I would get a skype or sip phone number and cary the thing wherever I go turning off my cell phone plan.

why dont you just get a phone with tethering or even a mobile hotspot device? want to keep everything in one device? i assume you plan on using this portable pc as a phone via VOIP as well?

I want to have a hand held computer and use it as my phone via voip ( 3g 4g plan ) and not pay for a phone plan from verizon or att or sprint. I could do this with the Small computers they sell in the verizon store that have the 3g/4g chips in the computer. But I want one about the size of an iphone. I dont want to use the USB data access you can buy from BOOST or spring that makes the device too awkward. I want one with the chip build into the computer.

I am willing to pay for 3g / 4g service but not a phone plan. I want to use a voip solution.

so it sounds like what youre looking for is a smart phone. try any android/windows/iOS phone and tmo or straighttalk unlimited internet. there are no windows computers the size of an iphone.

There are things such as the xpphone 2 but they are very expensive, I think a regular smartphone wold be better

Can you not skype on an ipad?

I assume I cannot get 3g/4g service without a phone plan. I dont want to pay for a phone plan. I am willing to pay for a data plan. As I said before the verizon store sells small computers that have a data plan only however they are to big. I want a hand held device.

How much are you planning to use this thing while out and about? It might be cheaper to get a voice plan and a hotspot capable smartphone.

Why not get a Android + T-Mo's $30 a month pre-paid which is 100 min unlim text/data ? About the closest/cheapest option for what you want to do....and you dont have to find a small hand held windows based device.

Get an ATT USB 3G or 4G data card..
Get a 3G or 4G unlocked smartphone.

Take the sim chip from USB data card, plug into unlocked smartphone. Open Skype app and talk away.

That's silly. Of course you can get data only plans (these days they like to call them tablet plans) and so data only SIM cards. Go with an unlocked smartphone and that. Easy.

Company called OQO makes a PC with the same name (I think they're on version 2 or 3 now) that's marketed IIRC as about the size of a thick paperback. That might be worth looking into, although it's a much bigger footprint on your wallet than it is on your desk ;)
