Halo 2 Graphics Comparison - PC vs. Xbox

It still looks like a 2 year old game. Add the shitty story line and you have a game that I would not even consider downloading.

Very very stupid of MS to make Halo 2 Vista only. I mean seriously, who's going to buy Vista just to play Halo 2?

512x512? 1024x1024 should be a minimum. 2048x2048 would have been a good high detail option. Were not all running 9800pros here.

the narrator for this halo 2 video said that halo 2 is only for Windows Vista yet he says that halo 2 doesnt not support directx 10, but "it does have a few upgrades". If the game does not support directx 10 (according to this guy) why wouldnt you be able to run it on XP?

I'm willing to bet someone will override the software that disables XP support. It's just a question of when. The graphics are much improved however.

i'll say it again even though it's been said countless times before.

it's a great FPS game... on a console. it's a marginal FPS game on a pc.

Who would want it even if it was for XP? Wasn't the first Halo on the PC bad enough.

What's the appeal in an ugly outdated badly ported Xbox game with missing features?

B/C OMG IT'S HALO AND IT'S AMAZING!!!!!!!111

...on an xbox!

It looks decent, however... it requires Vista? From the screenshots I would have to assume that the game is in DX9, and if it is, what is the point of Vista? If Msoft is going to pull that on us, bad move in my opinion.

Halo uno was sick on xbox and sucked on the PC. But I think Microsoft is actually trying to sell Vista to gamers, so it's quite obvious that the PC version of Halo 2 is far superior (just look at the screenies). As for Halo 3, that is still up for debate. But seeing as the Xbox 360's max rez is 1920 x 1080 (may be upgraded to 1920 x 1200), I doubt that an xbox 360 version would be much if any better than a PC version...

I believe that Msoft has finally realized how profitable PC gaming can be. The screenies look pretty nice, considering that Xbox360 at this point is not in nay way better than pc, I would expect Halo3 to look spectacular on the PC, however, I am way more excited about Crysis:D

The graphics are much improved however.

The graphics might be improved, i wouldnt exactly say by much.

However the original graphics were running on a 733mhz with 64MB of shared memory, if this is the best kinda improvement they can come up with, taking into account todays hardware (or avg hardware) then its laughable at best.

Since it doesn't look to be dx10, why the fuck is Veeesta required?

I loved halo2, but it boggles my mind why MS would release this as a kind of "vista showcase" game. I think anyone that is interested in halo 2 has already played it to death on their xbox or 360. I'd love to see their sales #'s in a month or 2.

Yeah, hopefully someone will come out with a patch to override the "Vista only" bullshit. The first half of Halo's single player is fun, I wouldn't mind continue playing Halo 2's story (even though I heard its sub-par compared to Halo 1).

All I want to know is this...

Can I Fight "The Flood" Through 10 Boring, Repetitive Level's In Halo 2?

If not, I'm not even going to give this game a try

Funnily enough, if they add HDR to H2 Vista, you've basically got visuals close to halo 3. The graphics in that game are seriously underwhelming.

The final product is going to look similar to the alpha and beta screenshots that are released.

It's not long before the game is out, and there's open MP beta soon. Games usually look worse the further in development they are, as graphical features get cut to keep the framerate high. (Gears, LAIR, but granted those games have superb visuals still)

It's about what I expected. Not like that is necessarily a bad thing; I really enjoyed the first Halo, so I'm sure this second one will be good too.

Textures are cleaned up, resolution is much higher, and now we can turn up the AA/AF.

Plus, by the time they're released, the graphics will look even more outdated compared to all of the new stuff released hitherto.

I generally like to reserve judgement on graphics until something playable is released to the public, before then, its premature.

Halo > halo2.

But i will still get vista and halo2 to just play it, because its halo

not a chance in hell that i would buy halo 2 for pc.. its an overhyped sub-par boring fps.. and if you dont agree with me, thats quite alright, just my personal opinon

Wow, a new computer can run a video game better than a 6 year old console. I'm impressed!!

Xbox 360 isn't even a year old buddy....
Isn't it coming out on the 8th of May? I do not see any good games being out by then. I am not a huge Halo fan, nor did I beat H2 on X360, I might check it out, that is if it gets some cool reviews.

I might play it if a hack/crack comes out that disables the OS check.

I'm pretty sure someone is working on one :p

I liked Halo1, but hated how they axed co-op.

I heard in Halo 2 they axed co-op right? If so, I'm not getting it.. there are better games to play single player.

if i was microsoft i wouldnt invest millions to upgrade the graphics more than they did from the xbox version..

why spend millions on a game thats already been played by the majority of people who have ever owned an xbox.

Halo2 for pc is merely port and as such gets the treatments of a port and as for it being vista only, thats another reason for them not to spend millions more on it when they planned on it having a limited player base from the start. it does how ever give vista owners a game that will surly work for vista. right now all XP vs Vista is, is another AGP vs PCI-E war (some felt agp was fine for awhile while other wanted the bandwidth now in the end PCI-E killed AGP rather fast.),

Vista has alot more potential over XP but its mainly the hardware vendors having crappy drivers thats the real problem. i enjoy using Vista more than XP.
