Half life 2 rendering errors

Hi, I was wondering if anyboy could explain these errors that I'm getting in the graphics for half life 2. I'm sure you can tell what the errors are from the screenshots... My graphics card is a 9700 pro. I've also been playing doom 3:ROE and I get no errors in the graphics whatsoever... Well, any ideas about what could be causing this?

Is your card overclocked? It looks like the card is dying possibly....getting way too hot or something.

It will be a DirectX error then. Not entirely sure why, BUT I can offer a possibility through a story I have.
I put a waterblock on my 9800se -> 9800pro, and as I took the old one off with it's terrible cement-hard thermal goop, I scraped a few traces on the back of the card. The card still works fine in 2D modes, but as soon as I do any 3D, I get the same problem as you, except in DirectX 9, the problem is exacerbated.
For instance, in Half-Life 2, it's impossible for me to see anything apart from blurs, but in Starcraft, there is only a few white dots around the screen.
Based on this, I'd say try re-installing DirectX, but if that doesnt work, and you then try a full format, and that doesnt work either, I'd say you've done something to the actual physical card.
Just a guess though...

The strange thing is that it doesn't happen at all with doom 3.... I guess I will try reinstalling Direct X... Also, another that is strange is that after I take a screenshot, the problem goes away for a few minutes until new textures are loaded... btw, my card is not overclocked...
