half-life 2 opengl clarification.

hopefully this won't get closed or deleted, as i'm not stupidly posting screenshots from a beta but i felt this needed to be cleared up.

anyways, yes the leaked version of hl2 had an option in the menu for opengl, BUT no matter what you choose in the menu it still runs in D3D. the only reason opengl is still listed is because valve had started working on an opengl renderer at one point but they never finished it and decided it was simpler to stick with D3D.

on another interesting note, even if you choose D3D in the menu the menu reverts to showing opengl. it's easy to mess around with your quality settings in both modes and then seeing if it changes in game, it doesn't, it only runs in D3D.
 
and also its should be brought up that just because the option is there doesnt mean it is better...

try running half life 1 on D3D mode, and you will understand

Exactly, run HL1 on D3D and it's crap, run it in OpenGL and it's godlike...Wow you made a huge point there DermicSavage :p
