Are you completely happy with your current video card and Half-Life2?

I'm still debating between the 9800 pro or the 6800 GT - and no I haven't bought my PC yet. What I'm hearing is that HL2 actually runs pretty well on the 9800 pro. I've heard that LOTS of folks are ordering more RAM, just to increase HL2 performance, but I'm wondering how many people, based on what they've read at this and other forums, are planning on buying an entirely new VIDEO card?

By the way, I'd like to let you in on a little secret. Half-Life2 is a mouth-wateringly gorgeous game when you're standing behind somebody at the store and watching them play over their shoulder. This is especially true when there are HL2 boxes on the shelf right beside you, but you can't buy one - and this really is the fucking point - because YOU HAVEN'T GOT A FUCKING PC TO PLAY ON!

Why is it that we're so fascinated by things that are just slightly beyond our reach?

If you're buying new and you're looking at a 9800 Pro you should really be looking at a 6600GT. Check out the 6600GT review on Anandtech; pretty nice improvement over the 9800 Pro and comes in both AGP/PCI-Express depending on what motherboard you're looking at (though the AGP versions are a little thin on selection as of right now).

I'm happy with my 6800gt and hl2 yeah, it runs great @ 1280x1024 w/4xaa and 8x af. However hl2 is (from what I've read and benchies I've seen) extremely cpu dependant. So when you go to buy your comp make sure you get a good a64 cpu. Also, a gig of ram will also help smooth gameplay. I don't know why we are fascinated by things that are just slightly out of our reach, it's just human nature.

I'm perfectly happy with my system. Any problems that I have are Valve's fault for shipping out a bug ridden game, not my system's.
