I've been playing shooters with a controller since Goldeneye 007 (N64). I feel more comfortable with a controller (I know, I've heard it all, mouse = superior, etc). Anyways, I looked in the options for HL2 and it didn't have an option for full use of a controller (I have a MadCatz Xbox 360 controller installed for use on Windows XP). Couldn't find any mods on the internet. A little help anyone? Thanks in advance.

You might have trouble, because no one else likes doing that. You'll be better off buying the Xbox version.

I don't have that controller; I have the MS one that came with drivers. Did that controller come with any drivers or software? With mine I believe you can have it emulate different keys (like have the A button emulate "r" for reload or something).

I'll try and remember to check tonight when I get home to be sure, but if yours doesn't you may want to look into a controller like that instead.

PC version of HL2 is not design for controller, get 360 version like Obi_Kwiet said

plus if you play other FPS online with a controller, 100% chance ppl will own you [H]

Most FPS PC games don't natively support controllers other than keyboard/mouse because theres no reason why anyone would want to stray from that combination. Seriously, learn to use the mouse and keys, you'll earn yourself so much more freedom.

He wants to know how to use a controller, not how to use a mouse and keyboard.

You can use a "360" controller (doesn't come with the driver cd), windows should automatically install the drivers, although I have never used it in half life, I have used it in halo. I'll try it in half life and get back to you.

HL2 has poor game pad support. I think if you buy a separate program to help map it, you could make it work. But seriously, just buy HL2 for the Xbox. You'll save your self a lot of head ache, and you'll have a game that's actually designed to be playable on the controller. Besides it'll probably cost as much as the mapping program anyway.

Download joytokey if that xpadder does not work well - just google it. You will have mouse emulation for analog sticks (works well) and you can map buttons to the keys.
