HAF-X, any owners?

I've had mine for a week. Went to Fry's to pick up an obsidian 800d and came home with a HAF X. :D

How do you like it so far? I'm really digging the design and since I'm coming from an ATCS 840, it won't be too big of a change in terms of case layout. I'll miss the mobo tray for sure but I think having everything colored black + filters everywhere minus the bottom PSU (which I'll fix with these maybe...http://www.demcifilter.com/index.htm magnetic design ftw?)

I was coming from a gen 1 Antec 900 so this case was really a step up for me. I was saving it for my new build, but I couldnt wait and slapped my current stuff in it. I like the bolt on wheels and the fact that there's a button to turn off the big red fan led right next to the power button. The hotswap hard drive bays are nice-I'm using one of the slots and it works just fine. To me it seemed to have all the benefits of the Obsidian (E.G. cpu backplate cutout, water cooling friendly, hot swap bays, motherboard tray holes w/ grommets, USB 3.0), but with a more rugged look and about $50-80 cheaper depending on where you buy it.

I suck at reviews but here's a decent one from guru3d:

I own one as well. It fits my 4 way SLI so I can't complain. I tell myself if I ever started to hate the look, I could just mod it myself.

The cable management isn't quite like the Obisidan. It has only two grommets on the side, whereas the Obsidian has grommets all over the motherboard. Also, they try to cover up the power supply cables with a black plastic thing - kind of poor man's solution.

If you're going to water cool this, know that it's noticeably smaller than the Obsidian and the ATCS 840, so there's less room to route things. And the radiator setup is a bit odd imo. Instead of mounting it directly to the top vents as you might expect, there's a bracket that runs along the top, splitting the rad in half, and you screw in the rad either on top of the case or below. If you go below, you'll block the top two 5.25 bays for anything other than a fan controller or something short.

http://www.xcpus.com/reviews/228-Cooler-Master-Unleashes-the-HAF-X-Page-4.aspx

Either way, there's some obstruction of airflow across the rad, which is not ideal. Performance seems ok, but I just find the setup really odd given how the ATCS and HAF 932 worked.

The rad design is the same as the ATCS 840 from what I can tell from teh pictures.

I personally like the black box thingy since in my ATCS840, it just sorta all hangs out. :X

Here's to hoping the sr-2 case is better for water cooling.

Not that I'm going to get it...there's big and nice for air cooling, then there's extremely excessive for motherboards with dual cpus and ultra-mega-uber-omniscient-atx motherboards.

The prototype pictures floating around seem like they just expanded the dimensions of the ATCS 840 and called it a day. I would think they would incorporate at least some features of the HAF considering this is a flagship, unless this prototype is really far off from production.

It's already released. I honestly think it's a HUGE upgrade from the ATCS 840. I'm def considering it over the Obsidian 800D.

I think the "black plastic thing" is nice if you dont have a modular power supply like myself, but if you do -you dont have to use it. Two thumb screws hold it in place. There is a hole to the right of where the power supply sits and you can route your psu cables through there and pop back in through the other two grommets.

You sure about that? I don't see it listed anywhere, and just last month, it was still prototype phase at Computex.

The HAF-X is also a smaller case than the Obsidian. That said, the new Corsair 600T Graphite is a midtower, and that has grommets surrounding the mobo as well: http://www.corsair.com/products/600t/default.aspx

Two 200mm fans, built-in fan speed control, USB 3.0, and it is also $50 cheaper than the HAF-X. Only downside, aside from no front HD hot swap bays, is that it doesn't hit stores until August.

Wrong case. Look at the post you replied to that I then replied too. He's talking about the case name "prototype", not the HAF X.

Oh my bad the way he worded it made it sound like he was saying it was still a prototype....

And I thought he's referring to the EVGA case made specially for the SR-2 that also has the special SR-2 PSU, I thought he was talking about this one,

Whoops.

I do like the look of the Obsidian 600 but it doesn't support a 360 rad which I need unfortunately =/. Obsidian is nice and I really wanted it before but the HAF-X is cheaper and IMO looks just as good since I don't mind the military/industrial look.

Plus the VGA card support, ducted side fan for GFX and such make it a winner in my book. Though I always did like the separated PSU/lower compartments.

Oof, yeah, the 360 rad ain't gonna fit in that 600T. One thing you could look at is the 700D, only $180 on Amazon after rebates: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Obsid...TF8&s=electronics&qid=1278467367&sr=8-1-spell

The only differences between it and the 800D are the SATA hot swap bays and the side window, otherwise its the same internally.

That said, if you need the ducted side fan then go for the HAF-X, you can't really find that feature in too many cases. :)

Ok, to clear up the confusion.

The HAF X is out, and I have it already.

There are two prototypes being developed by Cooler Master as a followup to the ATCS 840. Unfortunately, one of them is just called "Prototype", which gets confusing.

The first prototype is an EVGA branded case specifically for their SR-2 motherboard. This is the one I said is basically a physical expansion of the ATCS 840 and some new paint. This case here:

The other prototype, which is "Prototype", looks a lot different, but I haven't found any photos of the inside of the case. Both cases are still being developed, and it's not clear yet if both or neither or just one will make it into production.

I honestly hope they're going to paint the inside of the EVGA SR-2 black for you. It'd be ludicrous that you have to pay for that expensive ass mobo and then the case and then the PSU and not have a nicely painted case.

i own a lancool k62 black, i should have gotten a HAF-X but it cost 200 bones and for that I could have gotten a silverstone raven or the like.

My HAF922 is so tiny compared to these big cases..

Prototype looks cool. It sort of looks like Silverstone FT02 though.

I picked one of these up the day before yesterday...the case I had was to small for the newer video cards...hard drives were in the way. Don't think that'll be the problem anymore!

Haf X is better than the Raven in terms of almost everything.

Yeah it's huge. I had to take the lancools drive bay out just to have room to work with. The X is nice nice nice. How much are u guys paying for them?

I like the look of this case way better than the EVGA specific one.

It would be nice if CM made some cases that looked nice to compete with lian li and silverstone for looks as well as function. Hopefully it will be very watercooling friendly as well. 10 PCIE slots, wow, hard to beat that! And I hope this case will have the option of mounting wheels, as I have just come to love the wheels on my haf932. Also put FAN FILTERS on all your fans please! That's my main beef with the HAF. I had to jury rig my own fan filters.

Motherboard tray would be sweet, also give us plenty of cutouts to hide our wires and cables and I think you got a winner.
I have yet to be able to install a backplate on the cpu without removing the whole motherboard first which is a pain.

I've had my HAF-X for about 2 weeks - easily the best tower I've ever worked with.

I also put the wheels on mine. They don't work as well as I expected them to, but its easier to move the thing on wheels than to lift it up every time I want to open the rear door.

I just got mine this week. Still waiting for my mobo, CPU, RAM, and SSD so I can finally get building. :)

The case is very nice though, I'm already loving it. The video card holder seems like it will just get in the way though, so I'm going to leave it out. I do wish I came with another top exhaust fan. Can I buy a second one directly from Coolermaster? It seems to be a bit of a unique shape - maybe specific to Coolermaste cases?

I just wish I knew what Cooler Master was thinking when they maid the cpu cut out. Its useless with an RE3. The half the back plate is covered up, and you cant get to it.

The RE3 is not standard ATX size, it's a bit wider than the spec.

True. The build quality on this case is outstanding. This is the only case I have seen that even uses thumb screws for the pci brackets and power supply install. I would have thought they would not have been so short sighted as to not make the back hole a little bigger, to account for a greater variety of mobo's. I do wish it was just a half inch wider, to make it just a little easier to get the cables tucked in the the back though.
