Hacking an old mac

We've got an old mac in our office that no one has used in about two years and no one can remember the password to. Unfortunately, it has some relatively important files on it that we would like to get off. Does anyone know a way to hack or bypass the password protection (I'm not sure of the OS). Thanks.
 
If it is OSX then you just need to use a install cd to kill the password. If it is os9 there are also a few different ways. Also as long as the files are not encrypted you can always use another apple to read the disk. If the unit has built in firewire you can use target disk mode to make the unit an external hd and just mount it on another apple. If not you can always pull the drive to get the stuff off. This question would be better asked in the apple section. You may want to pm a mod and have them move it for you.
 
actually this is a very borderline issue
one we dont generally allow on the public forum
since the potential for misuse (even in the event the current situation is legal) is fairly great
