H80i issues

So my system has been having stability issues lately, and I discovered that one of the H80i fans was constantly ramping down then back up again. This would cause the CPU to reach high 70s before shutting down. Any ideas where the problem is originating from or it is a common problem with H80i's?

Not sure if it's a common problem (I have an H80i and it doesn't have this issue). You might want to try connecting the pump to a molex connector to see if the problem is the CPUFAN header on your motherboard.

But if you can't get it working, here is a work around. Why not get a fan controller (or wired in resistors) and plug your fans into that. It will bypass the built-in fan controller, which seems to be your issue. Yes, not ideal but pretty much guaranteed to work.

what motherboard and processor are you using?.. rarely you will see a system shut down caused by a fan not working properly, second.. are you using the fans controlled directly by the motherboard or by the h80i unit?....

I am using a X99 EVGA Classified and a 5930k OC'd to 4.4Ghz. I play Total War which is extremely CPU intensive, and it will push my system to 78-79c before I lose video signal. At idle (40-50c) the system is fine. The h80i has 2 SP120 fans connected into the pump. The fan furthest from the CPU is the one not functioning properly. Could it be the fan itself?

a damaged fan will not cause system instability at most it will cause the CPU to have higher temps but nothing more, are you reading core temperatures or package temperatures?... if the 78-79C are core temps then I think your instability issues are related to the CPU overclock and not the cooler itself.. if those temps are package temperature then the cooler have a problem (probably the pump dead?).. have you Corsair Link installed to check the temperature of the h80i?. .

I think the malfunctioning fan was messing with the airflow and causing the processor to get too hot. The pump also shows as working fine with corsair link.

I have a refurb H80i and i don't have the fan issue you speak of. I do not run my fans through the provided fan header on the H80i block, though. I have mine on the CPU fan header on my motherboard.

Do you use the fan ports/header provided on the block?
