H70 fan change

Some considering swapping out their H70 fans may find this useful.

Changed to CM 2 x 120mm Exalibur PWM fans to enable setting fan profiles via the mobo or other 3rd party application.

Ambient temp 26c
Humidity 61%
Decibels measured with iPhone app about 1 foot from case

Sound:
Computer off = 41db
Computer on = 52db @ 40c measures on core 1 at idle. fan RPM 1340

After 1 hour Prime X64 all cores:
Core 1 temp = 61c
Fan rpm = 2200
Noise = 58db

Comments: at 2200rpm the fans are a bit noisy but not deafening. Under normal running the fans are under 1400rpm and not noticable.

Stock fans at same parameters would produce idle temps at about 44c and load at about 74c

On balnce I think it is a worthwhile modification [ I exhaust out of the case]

I am waiting to get some GT's to put on mine and I think I will try switching it to exhaust. What are your idle temps now that you have it as exhaust?

I never had it any other way, I just can't see the sense of dumping hot air into a case.

What I do find about the H70 is that at idle temps it is on a par with most coolers but it really shines at load, last night I ran Intel's burn test and for over an hour the temp did not go above 60c with an ambient of 25c. this I don't quiet understand as the pump has a constant speed, so there must be a lot of capacity in the radiator.

The good thing about using PWM is that you can control the speed of the fans and with my mobo it comes with a range of profiles or you can make your own to suit.

I was wondering how you are getting such incredible temps with your H70? I am getting around 40C idle at 20C ambient, which I think is pretty warm. Also, when I ran Prime x64 for 6 hours it was holding steady at 76C.

Are my temps average for the H70 or are yours? Anyone else care to post their H70 temps?

Well I do have a very well vented case Coolermaster Sniper Black Mesh. 20c where I live would have most people wearing coats all day :D. I have my setup exhausting out of the case for the very reason I live in a hot cliemate.

Right now at 22c (it's early morning here) and humidity of 72% my core 1 temp is 40c and the cooler fan rpm is 1383rpm which produces no audible noise at all.

You are running an OC, which I am not [been there done that, no point] and I'd say your case ventilation is the problem if you hitting those 70+c temps, running IntelBurn test I don't get above 60c but the fans are running at 90%!

The reality is however, in games such as Crysis, MOH, ArmA, BBC2 I have never seem the temp go above 54c BUT! you should not fixate on speed or temps, the CPU is very very safe at any temps below 85c and will self preserve by closing itself down before and damage can be done.

If your computer is running without crashing, then go and do something productive and have fun with it. you don't have to be cooler or faster than the next guy.

lol. Thanks for the advice.

I think the 800D just suffers from poor ventilation. I may need to add a fan or two.

Don't loose sight of the fact that I swapped out my 2 stock H70 fans for a pair of Excaliburs' they are really very good
