I need an S-video output so I can play a dvd or TV show as an extended display. Right now I have a H67 MB with an i2500. If I add a nice video card none of them have a VGA or S-video output, so no easy method to hook up to my TV.

If I buy a good video card for gaming and hook it to my monitor, will I still be able to use the H67 VGA output to watch TV ?

If not what is the best video card with a vga or s-video output (analog) ? Is it still just the HD4770 ?

This ultimately depends on the board and BIOS. There are several (i.e. Intel) H67 boards that deactivate the integrated graphics as soon as they detect a discrete graphics card. You can look into your BIOS, if there is a corresponding option. Other than that you can only try.

I want an HD5850 which has two DVI ports, I think I could use a DVI-VGA adapter + a VGA-Svideo adapter and have the setup I need without the intel onboard graphics?

I went ahead and ordered a HD6850 for $140 with MIR. This should be more than I will need for my 17" 1140x900 monitor. Just hope I can unistall the dam microsoft display drivers, I'll probably be the first person to ever upgrade from the intel sandybridge GPU drivers to an ATI, hope I don't have to reinstall windows. Got my fingures crossed that I can get S-video output and still watch movies while browsing the internet.

uh, VGA -> s video doesn't work like that

the card needs to have TV-Out, which I believe the 5xxx series doesn't

if you want S-video, you have to go to the 4xxx series

Yea but the 6850 has an "analog DVI port". I guess it is worth trying. Man it seams the new card manufactures are just leaving us tube TV guys out to dry as far as information. Might as well wait for another one of those $350 42" flatscreen deals on amazon. Sure not gonto pay $100 for a full converter.

I will when my SPDIF bracket gets here, my old sound card wouldn't work with this MB.

I went ahead and ordered the converter box from TG for $32, worth a try.
