H60 w/ 7v Adapter?

I've had the same buzzing pump problem with multiple H60s. Last night, I tried connecting a H60 to a 12V to 7V adapter and the buzzing went away.

Is there any downside to running the pump at 7V instead of 12V? Will I damage it by using this 7V adapter?

The CPU in use is an Intel i7-3770T (45W TDP).
 
You will not damage the pump per say, but you will lower the flow. Make sure your temps are still in check.
 
Ah ok. Someone on the Corsair forums said it would damage the pump, which wouldn't make sense. I've haven't encountered a piece of electronics that failed / became damaged because it wasn't given 100% power.
 
I would worry about it not starting reliably. I know that something like the DDC3.2 won't start reliably at 7v.

It shouldn't damage it.
 
I bench tested the H60 using the 7V adapter and could feel the pump motor humming and vibrating like normal except without the grinding noise. I have a 9V adapter coming in soon. Gonna try that and hopefully there will be no grinding noise with that either.
