I'm wondering if I messed something up? or did not tighten down the cpu block enough?

Temps with the H105 installed are 50-55c while gaming... which is literally where it sat with the stock Intel HSF (ok, more like 55-58) so it is better... but... should I be expecting lower temps? I only hand tightened the cpu block, are you supposed to really crank it down? CPU is a i3 4330 Dual-Core + HT, 3.5 ghz

The pins should be tightened until they full stop. The h105 should be a lot cooler than the stock HSF. Most likely the seating/paste is to blame but if you are sure that you installed the unit correctly you may just have a haswell chip with a particularly badly installed heat spreader. This seems common enough. They definitely vary in quality since Intel stopped using solder. All haswells suck in this way but some are really bad.

Thanks. Yeah it certainly is a few degrees cooler at gaming load, so not a total wash. Just thought I might be seeing consistent <50 temps. No big deal in the end i guess. I just hand tightened them, so I'll take a screwdriver to it and see if they want to go any further safely. Will probably re-do the thermal compound at some point as well.
