About you.
Where do you call home?

Oakley, California.. i call it the boonies but its not.. Ive lived here for 4 years i believe :p lived in stockton for 16 years before this though..

What is your family situation?

unmarried, no kids... just the way i like it.. :p

What do you do for a living?

as of right now I'm a lazy bum sitting around my parents house waiting for a call from my recruiter letting me know when im leaving for basic training for the Army..

Does your forum name hold any significant meaning?

nope, not really.. created the name sirmonkey1985 back when i was 8 years old.. since then I've shortened it to sirmonkey but the name was already used on this forum..

Did you ever post in the "Let's see your mug... " thread?

nope..

Why or why not?

im not a very photogenic person..

What other hobbies or interests keep you busy?

Computers, networking, overclocking are about the only hobbies i have.. use to paintball and golf but both sports got way to expensive for me and there really isnt anymore to do either of those here in Oakley..

Right handed or left handed?

Right handed..

About your involvement in DC.
Who or what got you stated in DC projects?

About when was it?

um started way back in the day with Seti@home after seeing it on my fathers laptop years ago.. then forgot about it over the years.. started WCG last year with some friends and then quit after awhile.. started seeing the F@H messages on the news section of hardOCP.. and decided it was time to get back into it again..

Why do you participate?

For the cure of course..

If DC'ing could find a cure for just one disease tomorrow, which one would it be and why?

Muscular Dystrophy because my aunts dying from it right now.. though shes to far along and i doubt any cure found now would help her.. but its the thought that counts..

What projects have you contributed to? Any others you find interesting?

Seti@home, Folding@home, and World Community Grid

What teams have you contributed to?

on F@H only hardocp, WCG i started on Combined Torrent Communities.. Which was started by me and some friends to prove that people that download stuff dont do it just to destroy things.. and since 90% of people that use torrent sites have their computers on 24/7 anyways so why not put that to use..

Why did you choose the Horde?

Friendly group of people that have no huge ego's and dont talk down on people..

If your current project ends, which one will you move on to?

hard to say.. at this point.. theres so many choices out there.. and theres more and more popping up every day.. so it really would have to depend on which one has the most promising useful idea behind it..

Current level of production and how's it spread around?

right now on F@H i only have my 8800GT folding for AgrFan since the points dont really matter to me.. and i have 5 systems running the WCG client..

Where do you see the [H]ard DC sub-forum in the near future?

in the near future.. i really wouldnt know i havent been around here long enough in my opinion to know or see the plan but as of right now its growing quick and improving more and more every day.. Long term? long term id like to see the IRC channel get used more.. i think its a lot easier to communicate with each other that way.. i know it was removed a while back due to issues with people.. but i think we are all grown up enough to know whats right and wrong at this point and should give it another try..

Any ideas on improving the [H]ard DC sub-forum, or suggestions or improvements for our Team?

i think i pretty much answered it in the long term ideas for the sub-forum..

About your farm
What did you begin with?

shoot.. back in the seti@home days i was running an athlon XP 1700+ overclocked to 2000+ with a jet engine thermaltake heatsink on it.. i swear you could hear that thing from a mile away at 100%..

What are you running today?

today im running an AMD athlon X2 6400+ BE, AMD athlon X2 BE-2350 @ 3.04Ghz, Sempron 3100+ @ 3.1Ghz(water-cooled), old Pentium M 1.7Ghz laptop (displays broken off but the rest of it works so i might as well use it til it explodes), Athlon XP Mobile 2400+ (Barton) (this thing will not die), 8800GT @ 790/1885/1010 w/ 1.1v bios mod

What plans do you have in moving forward? Where do you see your DC'ing activities in the next year or two?
in the next 2 years unless my sister keeps my systems running it will proprobably stay the same.. but ill start up again after i get assigned some where after basic training most likely..

Do these boxen have day jobs or are they dedicated folders?

all of them are either folding or doing WCG 24/7.. i use my be-2350 BE for gaming and watching movies.. but the rest of them do nothing but WCG..

How are these boxen configured? OS, client, etc?

Windows XP Pro on all the systems running the Boinc client and 1 running the GPU F@H client..

Have you been successful borging? If so, what kind of borging worked for you? (For example, friends, family, and/or work?)

No i havent really borged anyones systems other then mine since everyone uses laptops in my house and they usually aren't on 24/7..

Is there anything else you would like to add? Did I forget to ask you anything?

I dont think theres anything else to add.. I enjoyed filling this out though.. made me relize how much of an addict i am when it comes to Folding/WCG'ing to find a cure.. :p

Thanks for letting me participate in this.. Its fun to read about other people involved in the team and projects.. and hopefully i answered everything.. :p

If the other military folk here are any indication, you will be left handed before long. ;)

I resemble that remark.

Good luck in the Army. (Sorry about the trashing we gave you at football this year :p)

Great Spotlight.
I was starting to wonder about him, like he was a space chimp from NASA that got loose!
Sorry to hear about your Aunt, I'll keep her in my prayers.

and notice many of my spelling and wording mistakes too.. hard writing a bunch of stuff in a PM screen cant ways see the mistakes... dangit why cant firefox have a phrase checker as well.. :p

heck i didnt even know this got posted.. :p woot im blind..

I really enjoyed reading this post ... good luck in the army ... and thanks for the extra points!

yeah if only the friggin military would station me.. im so fed up with waiting.. arg!!! stupid noob kids listening to their recruiters are just going in as infantry.. their not going in for any education.. so theres not enough people signing up for what i want to do.. so i just get to enjoy waiting.. and waiting.... and waiting... starting to get old.. if im not sent by the end of this month im going to switch to 25a instead of 25b..

and no problem with the points.. enjoy AgrFan..

The designations are obviously different fom the Marine Corps. What is a 25a and 25b?

25a is signal officer - battlefield communication
25b is system building/programming

they are just different job positions.. my cousin went in as a signal officer and was later switched to satellite battlefield communication after he was shipped to South Korea..

Ah, a battery powered grunt. The lucky bastard who gets to go out with with full combat gear AND a radio. :D

Disclaimer: I was a 2841 - radio tech. Sometimes known as an overtrained radio-operator.

I went in with a guaranteed "A" school in the Navy. With your scores high enough, you tell them what you want as a job. ;)

I had a prefect score on the electronics section of the ASVAB. Sometimes a good score can limit your options more than a bad score. Besides, there's no guaranteed anything in the Marine Corps.

The Marines used our schools for their Avionics, so yes there is a garentee.
You just need it in writing before you sign the dotted line... :D

I knew quite a few guys who had a few things in writing.

I'm just glad to hear that there's somebody out there that didn't get screwed.

Heck, join the Navy (like me too) and get a job operating a nuclear reactor on a submarine. Too bad the pay is less than that of Reactor Operators in the civ sector and I work almost twice the hours (I've been working 60-90 hours a week for the last couple months except for a x-mas break). OTH I've got lots of job opportunities after I get out. "20 if you hate it," I'm a lifer with over 17 in so far.

i aced the asvab.. i just walked in said i wanted this, this and this.. they said i needed to take a test.. said i could come in a week to take it after studying.. and i said hell no i wanted to take it now.. so i took it right then and aced it.. the recruiter looked at me dumb founded since i hadnt been in school in over 4 years and i never studied for the test at all.. didnt even know what was going to be on it..

oh and never graduated high school either.. but then again i was an over educated non grad.. i didnt graduate due to lack of non academic classes.. i think i was short 5 elective credits.. but my entire senior year of high school was AP courses(college level classes)..

and alan i made sure i got what i wanted.. my recruiter tried to screw me in the fine print.. he said i was going in for 6 years with a 45k dollar enlisting bonus for 25B.. i looked on my contract.. it said 6 years 25k dollars and some stupid thing i never heard of.. i threw that crap back at him and made him re-write it.. one of my other buddies got screwed the same way by the army and i wasnt going to let it happen to me.. since im not joining because i have to, im joining because i want to..

and jfb, i wouldnt trust my self being around a nuclear weapons/reactors.... knowing me and my ADD id find a way to accidently cause it to melt down..
17 years ya might as well keep going.. and enjoy the pention.. and triple dip like my grandfather does.. hes got a pention from the army, and 2 private security companies.. he was set for life by the time he turned 50.. but he also joined the army when he was 16 but missed WWII by 2 days.. was the only reason he joined in the first place..

tanks fer sharin' .. and my hats are alway off to those that serve or are about to serve our country.

keep it real ..yo ..word
