[H] Computer Tip

^ Also, on that note, if you shoot and kill someone while defending your property and he happens to fall outside your property, just to be safe, drag his body (w/o leaving evidence) back onto your property, preferably inside your house. ;)

Here's that rainbow.

Defending your property is justification enough to kill someone on your property. Just last year, Joe Horn defended his neighbor's property in Houston. In fact, when he called 911, he even said he was grabbing a gun and heading to his neighbor's house. The 911o operator told him not to, but he went and shot the guys making off w/ his neighbor's loot. (His neighbor was on vacation at that time.) It went to court and he was found not guilty.

Here's that story. Justice was served, albeit vigilante style. :)
This happen oftenly? Even you have a weapon I think you are not assigned to use it, until your enemy is threat to you.

Props to the 'phone guy for running the bastard down.

Props to homeowner guy for stepping in.

Stupid thief to run into a garage to get away. Like, seriously dude, if you need to get away, you go hide running through shrubbery or something. Don't go into a different guy's house! Idiot.

And also, I find it mildly amusing that there are more comments about the dude's last name rather than the story itself. =P

You could probably just raise a Pit Bull or something and keep it in the yard around the house, too...

While true...sad part is in some states, if your dog mauled a guy trying to protect you/your property/family, you may face charges and your dog might be put down if they play the aggression card.

It's gotten a little bit better but it's sad nonetheless. It just goes to show if it could be in any way turned against you, just kill the guy, plant a weapon, and claim self-defense.

I wouldn't say it happens often, but like I said, it depends on the state. Here in TX, we have the Castle Doctrine that's a little more gun friendly than some liberal states might be.

Oh, one more gun story that immediately comes to mind, while we're at it. A few years ago, a house in CA (yes, a blue state, but keep reading) was forcefully intruded by 3 (I think) people. The criminals severely beat up a kid who was there. The father and homeowner grabbed his gun and shot 1 of the perpetrators dead. The others absconded momentarily, but were later apprehended by police. Rather than the homeowner being charged for murder for that dead invader, those 2 accomplices were charged! The usual guys like Al Sharpton and the like were outraged, but that's how it held up in court.

That's not a good example though beowulf. If three criminals were beating up the guy's son, clearly it falls under the homeowner and father's right to protect his family. Furthermore he didn't maliciously hunt the other two down after they ran away.. so it's pretty cut and dry self-defense. As for your other example.. isn't Joe Horn a former NFL receiver? I'm not at all surprised he got away without any penalties.. Donte Stallworth is out drunk driving and kills a pedestrian and only gets 30 days in jail.. our legal system is a joke when it comes to high profile lawbreakers.

Well, that last example I gave (of the one in CA) was more to show that the criminals were the one who got charged for murder even though neither of them pulled the trigger on their buddy. I was just trying to give a few gun-related examples that made the headlines the past few years that I could still recall.

No, that's a different Joe Horn. This Joe Horn is a 60-something y/o retiree living in the Houston area. Check out that Wiki link I gave a couple posts ago.

I had my fingers crossed it was a different Joe Horn.. either way, to pull a gun over something so petty would be ridiculous.

Too bad he dropped the lappy when they caught him.

That kind of stuff would not happen here. Not because everyone in this neighborhood is honest... but because I live in an 8th story apartment :p But who knows, maybe a pigeon or something will fly past and snatch my netbook from the balcony some day :)

I just got a sudden urge to try and train birds to steal laptops.

some cat in Alberta had his atv stolen, ran the guy off the road with his pickup truck and fired two rounds as the guy was running away. then got all his buddies together to hunt him down

check it out: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/calgary/story/2009/04/09/cgy-farmer-theif-alberta.html

Does anyone know whether there is a type of bird that could even lift a laptop competently? I wouldn't want to hurt the bird by making it try to carry something too heavy out of a 8th story apartment. Come to think of it, could a bird even grasp a laptop properly? I mean there feet don't look like they would be perfect for it. perhaps if the laptop was in a case with handles? do you keep your laptop in a case with handles jimmyg?

A bald eagle! But you would get a bunch of talon holes. Maybe some rubber booties?

It depends on the state's and even local laws. In TX, for example, you can defend your property and even shoot someone in the back if you're in the act of defending. In some more liberal states, perhaps that wouldn't even be permitted.

In fact, in TX, there was a case where a man came home and noticed his wife was having sex with someone else. She claimed she was being raped. So as the other guy was trying to get away, the husband grabbed a gun and shot the guy in the back, even after he left their property.

It turns out the other man was his wife's lover and not some random raper. Furthermore, she was the one who was charged with murder and not the husband.

And that's the way it should be! :D
