Man... I just got a Toshiba HDD about a month ago, its 250gig and had 40 gig of music on it, and all my photoshop work, photos, eberything, it was got storage. Now it dont work. It shows it in My Computer but when I click on it I get D:/ is not accessable drive is corrupt or unreadable.

It dont show up in the defrag menu, I Cant get to it to do CHKDSK on it or anything.

Anyone know any kinda jedi ninja tricks to save me? I hate to lose all that stuff, I manually ripped over 200 CD's that took around a week to do.

It's a toshiba Hdd.. - is it a laptop hdd? cause I didn't know toshiba made desktop hdd's.. and I didn't know there were 250gb laptop drives.

anyhow.

I assume you have access to the internet (since you are posting here).

What you need to do is :
get a copy of..

The ULTIMATE BOOT CD

You should find some helpful tools in the "HDD TOols" Category.

CHecking toshiba's product list for 2.5" hdd's (no 3.5" hdd's available, at all) shows that 120gb is the top of the line.

Whatever brand you do have.. the advice is the same.
 
Thanks guys, ill check that out. Its a Panasonic HDD, I dont know why I put Toshiba. My bad. hope this shit works.

Panasonic makes 250gb hdd's?

I am not trying to sound condescending.. but..If you don't even know what kind of harddrive you have, you might want to not be installing harddrives.. let alone trying to fix corrupted partitions.

Hardrive manufacturers that I know of

Western Digital
Samsung
Seagate
Maxtor
Hitachi/IBM
Toshiba (laptop only) 120gb max..
Excelstor (rebranded western digital, actually)
Fujitsu. (scsi only, last I heard..)

I call shenanigans.

Ive been building computers for plenty of people for years, I know what im doing.
Weather or not you believe me about the make of the HDD has nothing to do with anything here really.
But just so you know, It is Panasonic. I didnt know they made them when I found it either.
Maybe they dont build it, but its packaged as Panasonic in the UK.

Make what you will of that. Not sure witch ones what. Ones is a Maxtor the other is the Panasonic and the other is my phone.

The highlighted one is a 7200rpm 60GB Hitachi/IBM.

The one above it (HDS72252 5VLAT80) is a 7200rpm 250GB Hitachi/IBM.

The third is your phone.
 
Have you tried the disk management console under Administrative Tools?

Well, that bootcd didnt help a whole lot. I still see the HDD in Windows, and it says its working like before, but when I click on it, not I get a message asking if I want to format it rather than saying its currupted and unreadable.
Any other ideas? A friend is saying I can format it and use a program to recover the data, but I aint sure about that. You guys know anything about anything like that?

Generally, the software that can recover a formatted partition can also recover from the trouble you're having. You'll just need to acquire that software first and try it out. Otherwise, if you're comfortable with doing a QUICK format (emphasis on the QUICK option) that may also work.

Yes, I also want to emphasize QUICK. Easy Recovery Professional is a decent piece of software. It can recover RAW data without filesystem information. There are probably better tools out there, but this one should work.
