Just like the title says, is the game worth buying or should i save my money towards the new splinter cell or something else? im an rpg fan and MMORPG but I haven't heard much feed back on this game since it came out.

Its a very nice time waster. I got it and also got a T-shirt :p woo whoo.

Any who its a very pretty game and gets pretty immersive if you like addictive rpgs.

I like it.

I've never been a big MMO fan, but I enjoyed Diablo II and Dungeon Siege, etc. and Guild Wars is a nice advancement on those IMO. Good game!

Its a good game. What even makes it better, theres no monthly fee!! I say go for it.

out of curiousity, do you have to pay a monthly subscription fee?
Have you bothered reading anything that's been said about the game in the last year? Every other review I read made a big deal about this.

6. then you can choose any other one for your secondary (or not take a secondary)

monk/necromancer/warrior/mesmer/elementalist/ranger.

I played it the other day at a friends house. Its pretty fun, kind of diablo like. I was originally planning to get it, but the store had no more copies left, so I bought WoW instead

Off topic: WoW is fun ^_^

Nothing replaces Diablo. What made those games fun was the hack and slash game play. You don't get hack and slash by pressing numbers on the keyboard or hotkeying keys to the mouse to press once every some odd seconds. I liked the idea that I could attack at will in Diablo(I know my mouse hated it :p ).

Having said that, Guild Wars is fun. It's just not a Diablo game. Diablo makes Diablo.

Side note: Diablo 3 rumors. The sound track was recorded in Russia by the same orchestra that did the soundtrack for Diablo 2. Diablo3.fr was bought by Vivendi on March 24(think that was the date).

'course this means nothing. The domain name could have been bought to prevent cyber squatting...the only stricking detail is that Vivendi did buy it.

I'm thinking about buying it for my brother's b-day, but how well do you think it'll run on his computer?

It's an old Athlon Tbird 1.3 with 512mb o'RAM and a Geforce 3.

He's currently back playing Diablo 2 online, so Guild Wars could actually be a good transition. Plus I don't have to poney up a monthly fee for him either.

Undoubtedly the best gaming experience I have had in years, and I am almost a strictly FPS kind of guy.

would this be a good game to break into the mmorpg world with. I enjoy rpgs but never got into the mmo side because of the monthly fees, but since this doesn't have monthly fees it caught my eye

also is broadband required

Some of the basic concepts in GW are similar to games like Everquest and WoW but it really is a different type of game. If you were always curious about MMOs, I'd say give Guild Wars a try (even though virtually every single MMO includes a free month of play). I'd say this game is like a combo of Diablo meets Countersrtike for the fact that you can have some pretty fun battles versus other people.

As far as your other question, broadband isn't required but it'll play better of course. Sometimes when you go to a new area, you'll have to download some files before you can play. Just a few megs but over a 56k connection it could be a pain. However, during the E3 event last year, I actually played Guild Wars over a cell phone internet connection and it worked pretty good.

i'm curious about it too, but what about adventuring on my own? do i have to watch my back for some jerk to stab me in the back?
i'd like to be able to explore and just check things out before hooking up with a group, but i'm concerned that some higher level person will come along and kill my low level character.

The way it works is that its not a true mmo. When you goto towns you can make parties. When you leave a town and go into the wilderness your party goes with you. You will not be with any other than your party in the wild.

Adventuring on your own is easy in pre-searing, pretty much tutorial. And gets harder.

I have played WoW since launch day and just cancelled my sub 2 days ago. Not because of GW, but it helped. I was ready for a battlegrounds type experience now and I didn't want to keep waiting. I love the strategy and intense battles that GW provides. Having so many skills but only being able to pick 8 is very clever. Each battle is unique and can keep you on your toes. I hope to be competitive in PvP and be rewarded nicely for doing well with items and "rankings/titles". I think that GW will provide this. Plus, it is a lot less time consuming than WoW and that is good for me.

How are the spell effects in the game and how good is the character creation? Thats what I loved about CoH, you could make your character so unique from anybody else and the spell effects were freaking awesome.

Spell effects get the job done, but they are nothing great. Character creation is terrible honestly, not sure why they didn't add a ton more features before launch. Since everyone is human they should have at least had a ton of options like CoH.

That will run it just fine. That's what I've been running it on until just the last beta weekend, when I got my new computer.

yeah, it'll run just fine. i ran it on a tbird 900mhz with 256mb ram and a 9000AIW (64mb) at the last beta weekend because i wanted to lie in bed rather than sit in a chair while i played... its fun having 2 computers in my room:p

unique characters - you can change hair style/color, skin color, height, face. i think that's it though. the real uniqueness comes from combining clothing types (different kinds of armor for different types of mages, for example) and dying those wierd colors.

spell effects - they look nice, but they could be better. they get clipping on some things (the effect goes into the ground rather than rolling off of it or w/e, they clip through people) but that is to be expected. you can't really get a decent screencap of spells, either - they are made to be seen in motion. the screencaps don't look half as good as they do when playing.

the glow effect is pretty cool too.

Hmmm, I wish there was a demo out before I splurged $50 on it.......After DAOC, Earth and Beyond, Lineage 2, CoH, EQ2, WOW Im a little MMORPG'ed out......

At least there's no monthly fee. I'm starting to get a bit burned out on WoW, and considering trying this. I feel somewhat pressured to get from lvl 1 to lvl 60 as quickly as possible so I can play End-Game material and PVP since I'm making monthly payments.

Hrmmmmm, but I wanna get a PSP too. *sigh* To much stuff to play, and not enough time or money......

It is worth every single penny of it. I was lucky enough to get it for $40 bucks with $10 rebate. So yeah, get it!!!

And you do not have to worry about people stabbing you from the back to jack your loot. When you enter a quest or leave the city for any reason, your party gets their own copy of the map. So you and your party work together without no outsider bothering you to steal crap from you. You also do not have to play with people, you can hire henchmen for FREE! You can have up to 4 henchmens, or at least at the city I am in right now.

This game however is not about getting super uber crazy stats items. It is more about skill based and how you set attribute points on your character. So do not get this game if you expect to just play it to find super rare items like ones in Diablo and the likes.

there are rare items (ask any lvl20 char... i got a nice sword from one of my friends:p)

but they aren't THAT more effective (directly) instead, they help your skills.

most fights you will not win without using skills (unless you are a warrior, then you have a chance)

it's really hard to solo (without a party at all) but the henchman make it easy to play on your own. later on you they give you more henchman to choose from (yak's bend more show up) so it makes soloing that much easier.

thanks, I've ordered the regular version today should be here mon or tuesday

Well, I sucked it down and got the last Collectors Edition at Gamestop for $65. Hope I don't regret this.

I highly doubt you will.

Well, I just plopped down full price for me and my brother - a regular and collectors edition. ^_^ Too bad finals are just around the corner (at least it's my last year) so things may have to wait a few weeks. Sure looking forward to it though. My first MMORPG..sorta...and the only online game I've played since the original CS and gunbound.

Quick question though...did anyone else get a T-Shirt with their collectors edition? My Fry's had it bundled. Says "Guild Wars" on the front, and then has NCsoft and Arenanet on the back.

It runs just fine for me over 56k. I haven't had any problems with lag or anything. The transition between areas isn't too bad either. It takes a couple of minutes tops. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but the game does some sort of preloading of some things.

WoW seems to have more "features" but I like the idea of not feeling like I have to play a certain amount to get my monthly fee's worth.

game is great... im lvl 14 now and having a blast!... actually im starting to have more fun with the henchmen because i can do what i want without hearing "waah boo hoo i wanna do this quest" and actually the henchman have VERY good AI imo.

Enjoy the game! If anyone needs any help my name is Sarlaiel Gangrelore. I have tons of items i can give out to guild members for free if wanted. I dont really need anything

I prefer the seemless world of MMOs. One of my favorite things is to find other completing the same quests as you throughout the worlds and interacting with them.

With GW you have to arrange meetings in town, and once you have formed your group, you basically do an instance run. I felt kind of disconnected after I left the town.

I think GW will bring alot of people to MMO style gameplay who havent played before. Also, it will help the urge of PVP centric MMO players looking for quick action. I'm going to stick with WOW, because I love the seemless world, but by no means am i jumping on the "GW SUCKS go with WOW" or "WOW sucks go with GW" bandwagon. To each their own.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

I grew so sick of the "Look at me, I spend 12 hours a day leveling on WoW and I am uber and loot compared to you, you have no chance of catching up to me" feeling of Wow, DAOC, CoH, L2, and EQ2 that the world of GW suits me just perfect.

I've lost to much time, patience and health trying to compete with the "Big Boys" of the MMORPG world that I honestly came to the conclusion after 1.5 years of DAOC "You know what, who gives a flying fuck?"

With GW I can play when I want to, how much want and feel like I accomplished something.

And im $15 a month richer.

How come I don't have access to all my spells in PvP? Whats up with that??????

The reason you don't have any skills unlocked in PVP mode is due to the fact you need to unlock those in RPG mode. Some people may think it sucks.. but I like how I need to unlock and earn those elite skills myself before I can use it with a PVP character..
