Frankly, I wasn't sure where to put this. This post is a mix between Operating Systems and Data Storage with a bit of Networking mixed in, but since it is a *file* server I thought I'd throw it in here.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any tutorials or guides of installing either Linux or *BSD and setting it up to be a file server. Like a pretty noob guide. I know nothing about *nix, so, although I know people don't like to do it, I could appreciate some hand holding, hehe. Just pretty much any guide on how to get one setup and such. Thanks.

If your wanting to use nix as your OS you are going to need to turn your efforts to learning Samba. Samba is the program that will setup and allow you to talk to Win machines (assuming you are using Win clients). Samba is pretty straight forward. Samba website has some great howtos.

If you need anymore help, you know where we will be;)
