Server 2k8 Enterprise R2 + Hyper-V
Oh god. Not only is is the configuration of basic Server 2k8 roles and features retarded (you cannot activate more than one feature or role at a time, without rebooting), but the damn thing ate my original profile, and then locked it, so that I couldn't get into it.
I don't like the networking, at all. This was deployed on a laptop as a test, and the hope was to use the wireless interface. The wireless would not connect on the 5GHz antenna, at all (saw no 5GHz SSIDs), so I was forced to use the congested 2.4GHz antenna (after an hour of fighting with 2k8 to even GET connected).
Once the networking was squared away, I deployed the Hyper-V role, and rebooted. I found that I could not mount an ISO to the VMs DVD drive if I had enabled another feature/role without rebooting (retarded). I also found that when Hyper-V creates that VM Network with the virtual 10Gb interface, it takes all of the IP information that you had assigned to the physical adapter, and basically chucks it. This forces you to set up networking (again) on the virtual interface (fun).
Not only that, but the Virtual network would not attach to anything other than the wired interface on the laptop. It would not allow me to attach the virtual network to the wireless interface, meaning that any VM updates that I would need to do, or any access that I wanted them to have to central file shares, would had to have been over the wired interface. Great thinking...very flexible.
Now, I realize that I probably should have known better than to try some of the stuff that I tried, but really...what the hell? Also, I just was reading through the clustering/HA guide for Hyper-V, and found that the only supported disk subsystem for clustered hosts/failover is iSCSI!? The only one?
I'm gonna try CentOS with KVM now...
