Okay so i'm an admitted newb to overclocking my gtx680.

I recently decided to give it a shot using the evga precision X that was included with it.

I've been stable so far with +125mhz GPU Clock Offset, which when running the built in stress test, shows a clock boosting to around 1290mhz.

When i run a game (guild wars 2) the clock doesnt seem to go above 1189mhz.

...Why is this? shouldnt the clock boost to ~1290, like the stress test?

Memory is +375, and Power Target is +125%

Thanks.

Guild wars 2 doesn't stress your gpu enough for it to clock up. It's a heavily CPU intensive game. Even a small CPU overclock will show results in it.

Huh, okay. When i look at gpu load when playing, you're right in that the load doesn't generally hit 90% even.

My CPU is running at 3.8ghz., and i've got 12gb of RAM.
I've installed the game on an old spinning HDD.

I'm actually wondering if i'll get smoother performance (panning camera mostly, so loading textures i guess...?) installing it on my SSD. What do you think?

That's the theory I thought too but I noticed no difference with gaming except for faster load times

Deja vu thread. The clock rate and "load %" are dynamic and dependent on several factors.
