GTX275 -> ?

I just purchased Deus Ex 3, and I play at 1920x1080 on a GTX275. I'm starting to think it's time to upgrade my video card..

Is there a card that is somewhat affordable that would be a very noticable upgrade from my current card? Also, how much could I sell my GTX275 for if so?

Your best choice for a substantial upgrade would be (at minimum) an HD 6950 or a GTX 560 Ti. These can usually be found in the $200-250 price range.

Anything less won't be worth the money.

Hmm and AMD just released a campaign with certain cards that get that game for free with it. Too bad you could not return the game and buy the card with it.

sadly even those are not really a substantial upgrade IMO. according to reviews, a gtx560 ti or 6950 are only about 40-50% faster which seems like a pretty lame improvement over a nearly 2.5 year old gtx275. its ridiculous that we have to buy the very high end cards just to get over 50% more performance than we got 2.5-3 years ago from cards of the same level.

OP please list the rest of your specs as surely you are not still rocking the E6600.

Whoops, definitely didn't update my specs.

Phenom II X4 2.8ghz
4gb ram
Windows 7 64-bit

My price range.. honestly it depends on if I'm going to see a huge improvement.

Are you saying 40-50% faster FPS-wise or just pure numbers...

not sure what you mean by that.

anyway I would go with a gtx570 if price is not an issue. and really you are going to need to oc that cpu a bit to get try and get the most out of any high end card.

I also vote for the GTX 570 but get a good version like a Hawk or Twin Frozr etc.. This way you can yield a good overclock hopefully due to superior aftermarket cooling. Nothing is guaranteed but typically you can get some good boosts with a card of this caliber. Overclocked you'll enjoy that card quite well over your GTX 275.

Or decide if you cant just wait a couple more months for next gen cards.

Older Phenom II's seem to have more difficulty getting to 3.6 Ghz. My x4 940 tops out at 3.4Ghz and my x3 720 gets to 3.6Ghz, but with 1.60v. Might I recommend checking out EVGA B-Stock? Some great deals there. I picked up a bunch of motherboards(nVidia 790i/750i/730a) there and all have been fine (save for the missing SLI-Cable). I recently ordered 2 GTX 460 1GB cards for $220 for both, GTX580 performance on the cheap(these should be able to hit GTX 560 speeds). Granted, I'm assuming your MoBo isn't SLI capable, so check out the GTX 480 for $220 or the GTX 570 for $250.

Careful their B stock stuff is poorly tested. I've seen 2 threads now that people keep getting doa parts from them. Yes they accept returns if it happens but expect to pay for shipping back and forth

I'm going to agree with this.

I am in the same boat as well, Having a gtx 275 and not sure what to upgrade, my spec is:

Intel I5 2500k
8 gig ddr 3
EVGA GTX 275

Should I upgrade now or use my card till it die to rma it to evga?

I love EVGA RMA's! My 7900GT blew out and they sent back an 8800GT to replace it. With that in mind, I'd imagine a GTX275 would be replaced with a GTX470 at this time, perhaps even a GTX560 Ti.

My move from the GTX275 to the GTX570 was palpable. I run at 19x12 and the only thing I've run so far that really crushes performance is Starcraft II with shaders set to ultra.
