GTX Owners say Ouch!!

Well, according to that story. It scored 14,000 in 3dmark05 not 06.
a GTX will score 11,000 in 06.
So i don't think they have too much to worry about. Also consider the source.

3dmark05? Please

Look what the 9800gt U2 gets in 06:

9800GT (U2 edition, like the iPod!)

...and how do you think they come up with so much news everyday? Well half of it, no, more than 3 quarters of it is irrelevant and upsetting.

Hey everyone look at SmackDizzle, wow you are so cool I so wish I could be like you:rolleyes:

There happy, we are looking at you now, giving you the attention you are craving anything else while we are at it?:rolleyes:

He probably didn't know.. And if he didn't know, now he knows.

OUCH!

o sry im not a GTX owner =(

If they do say ouch, what should we people that dont even own a 8800 say?

You are attacking me because of an Inq article? Wow, I came acrossed it and through it up. Not sure what the "being cool" and "look at me" is all about... but I do know you are quite rude and may not have full control of your emotions. If the source is incorrect, I'm sure it will be rather apparent soon enuf.

If I make a graph in excel and say that my sweet 9800gt U2 edition card gets 20 fps more than any other card, does that make it true too?

I'll believe these guys when they can show a picture of the card, and not the same one that we've seen with different watermarks on it.

IMO.. Anything that comes out of the inq is bullshit put there to pull suckers in and make money from their adds.

those sm2 and sm3 scores aren't that amazing.. I believe my single GTX was popping 5k (and them some) on both smart shader tests when I was running it solo last fall.. which brings up the point that, I have now had the same video card for about a year now.. wow! way to go 8800GTX.. I still say it's one of the most impressive cards I have ever owned.. er, owned two of.. last card I liked this much was a 9700Pro.. at any rate.. after almost year of the 8800GTX being released I don't doubt newer cheaper and almost as fast cards are here.. that's just how it goes. Also, that '06 score is being bolstered by the quad cpu.

Not only is the source absolute shit but i fail to see where it "outed" the 8800GTX scores a quick google search shows with "similar" (as close as i could find) setups the 8800GTX outscores it by anywhere from 1-3k.

Someone tell me why the GTX owners should say ouch because something can come close to its performance in 1 benchmark...

Sounds to me that the folks over at the inquirer need to learn how to read as well as the OP.

3dmark05 is so 2 years ago anyway:rolleyes:

i hope so. it would be about freaking time, even if the GT meets the GTX, that be about damn time too. by now next gen midrange SHOULD be meeting last gen high end. the important thing i only care about is the HIGH END. WHERE IS MY HIGH END GTX KILLER NVIDIA??? (i of course mean faster than GTX SLI)

Humph...

1 dash of overclocking
1 smidgeon of A3 core
Add to that a good PSU with good ventilation....

And you can overclock a 640GTS > Ultra speeds on air, which should put you a bit above GTX throughput.

Yup, I'm ok with that for a first-gen DX10 card. I, like many others will probably wait this round out.

Oh, using the Inq. as an "official source" is like earing really thick beer goggles, at the last call of some seedy bar. Everything looks good until 6:30, 7am pee trip. (Think Beerfest).
"Common, I knew it the whole time..."

no.

the GTS has 24 texture units, and 20 ROPs, along with a 320bit bus. The GTX has 32, 24 384. To even similar texture performance of a slightly overclocked GTX, say 648mhz like mine, the GTS would have to reach around 860mhz core, which is impossible with even water cooling and not practical even if possible using other exotic methods.

Why the hell should I say Ouch? I've had my card for a year. It kicked ass for a year. I upgrade about every other year.

This is no different than a normal upgrade cycle.

Based on your sig, I don't think your card even beat a stock GTX.

To equal a stock GTX, your core clock needs to be (575/20) * 24 = 690 MHz
Your SP clock (1.2/96) * 128 = 1.6 GHz
Your memory clock (800/320) * 384 = 960 Mhz

I'm not exactly sure what is your SP clock, but I guess it's around 1.6 GHz. So your oc'ed GTS is faster than GTX in memory clock, around the same SP clock and slower core.

Please correct my maths if I'm wrong but I dont think it beats an Ultra since on paper it's just matches a stock GTX.

An oc'ed GTX or Ultra will stomp over an oc'ed GTS.

This is from the inquirer. Can we just not allow links to the inquirer? They are always BS.

They have had many many true news articles, the key with the inq is to take it with a grain of salt, but often they have alot of true info, but people like you just write it off cause they dont want to beleive what they see most time because it goes against what they want to beleive.

it is so nice to see smart posts! People who are happy with the use they have HAD with their cards not what they might get.

Actually, that's a completely valid statement and makes perfect sense. It's perfectly natural to be happy that you didn't listen to all the people who said "wait for the R600" or "wait for the refresh. . . it'll be cheaper and faster."

Instead of "waiting". . . and "waiting" for over a year for something that never materialized. . . some people are happy that they took the plunge and have now enjoyed almost a year (and probably several more months) until the 8800gtx is finally overtaken by another part.

I'm personally thrilled that I've had 11 months of high resolutions and top-notch eye-candy, and even now my cards aren't about to be obsolete. What's so silly about that?

Finally, regarding the Inq: Even a broken clock is right twice per day. What troubles most of us isn't that they're always wrong. . . but the fact that they actually call people and companies liars while they spew their own inaccurate stories. And then they never acknowledge when they in fact turn out to be the ones who were wrong. A perfect example of this is the "X38 will do SLi. We have the proof! And everyone knows that nvidia is lying like they always do!" stories that they ran and then (of course) never corrected or retracted. That, quite frankly, sucked. But it's standard operating procedure for them.

Edit: To be fair though, the title of this thread implies that all 8800gtx owners should be saying "ouch" and some have responded to that. But the Inq column itself says that only recent 8800gtx buyers should be saying "ouch."

I'll with hold judgment until some more trust worthy websites preform some reviews on the cards. Goes for both the 8800GT and 2950Pro.

But hey, if one or both of these can match or surprise the GTX, good. Dang GTX has been out about a year now. So it has been at the top (or near if you count the Ultra) for much longer than most cards have during the last few years that ATI and Nvidia has been going at each other.

I think the GTX might still have a few more months ahead of it though. Regardless if it gets bested at the end of this month or early Q1 2008, I'm still pretty happy with my GTX and I won't be saying ouch. But Thank You. :)

The GTX is still faster with more SP and more memory bandwidth. The achilles heal on the 8800 GT will be the 256 bit memory interface.

Nice try. If you would have had some input on the subject, or if you were actually trying to inform us you would have added more than just a link which we can get off any RSS feed. However I will give you the benefit of the doubt and apologize because I hurt your feelings.

Agreed - I was about to post the same but thought id read the thread b4 jumpin in...

/F

Blah, all this bullshit surrounding nexgen graphics card is ridiculous

I just want G92 and R670 to come out already so real test benchmarks can be had. Since I game @ 1920 x 1080 benchmarks, I need to see whether the GTX still bests it by a large margin at that res.
