It should, only down side is that the Alienware has a power cap at 65w (I think). So it will not go into turbo on all cores but still a massive upgrade over the i3 in there.

Pretty sure Xeons won't work, at least when I had mine they didnt.

Well so I was bored this evening and installed the Xeon in the Alienware alpha and it appears to be working fine.1543025451899131276446.jpg

Hey guys update on the Alpha, while the Xeon "works" in the Alienware, it looks the GPU needs some of the Intel Igpu goodies to fully work. Further tested with a 4590 from HTPC, which lets the 860m fully work. The Xeon posts and you get video but no 3d acceleration, kind of boggling how/why Dell designed the video this way, so sorry for the false hope.

most likely is the mobile video card 860 (M) that needs the APU.

Still have Alpha, but swapped CPU from htpc with Xeon so now has a 4590 4c cpu

I have the i7 alpha - put win 10 on it - because of the 860M you can stream games from your gaming pc if it has an nvidia card - even so - it will play overwatch and destiny 2 on it's own fairly decently. I have been using it as my tv gaming/htpc box and for 200 bucks...that is a steal for what you get. - hell I even take it when I travel. Just connect up to the hotel tv and wifi and I got all my entertainment to go. Small enough to pack up and take with you.
