I have been monitoring how games perform on my GTX 980 Ti SLI setup. Nothing too special about it; they're on reference coolers and not overclocked at the moment so there is legroom for even better performance.
There are a lot of people under the impression that 4K is still some futuristic resolution that is out of reach and it's impossible to get games running at that resolution with everything maxed out. That simply isn't the case.
You'll also see how important it is to have more than 4 GB of VRAM in most of the videos... each video shows FPS, CPU and GPU temperature, usage %, and amount of VRAM in use in the top left corner.

Tomb Raider (2013):

Before this I had a GTX 980 SLI setup which encountered significant stutter constantly on most of these titles due to the 4 GB of VRAM. As you can see, Assassin's Creed Unity, Dying Light, Evolve, Grand Theft Auto V, require over 5 GB of VRAM. Tomb Raider needs 4.6 GB.
