That motherboard won't work with SLI. In general, the 16x/4x boards only work with Crossfire, not SLI. In those cases, the 4x slot is actually coming from the southbridge.
On a motherboard that can do 8x/8x, neither comes from the southbridge. Those are generally SLI compatible.
I personally wish nvidia would get rid of that restriction, and let people at least give it a shot, like you can with Crossfire.
True ^^ Wait for a GTX 960 or 960 Ti and use the 760 for PhysX in that 4x Slot
Um why not test it for yourself and see if its worth it???I have a GT 640, do you think I should use that as my PhysX with my GTX 760? It's the 1GB DDR5.

If he is going to get a 970 then might as well sell the 640 too. I would think a single 970 would do just as good if not better handling both physx and graphics than offloading physx onto the 640.In that case sell the GTX 760 and get whatever newer nvidia gpu you want e.g. 970 or wait for the 960 or 960Ti which will probably hit the market pretty soon. Use the GT 640 as a physX card. You'll get more money by selling the 760 (obviously) and I'm sure the GT 640 will be fine for physX.

A gt 430 for physx would already hold even an old gtx 580 back.Theoretically having a dedicated physX gpu should improve overall performance unless it's such a weak GPU that it holds the GTX 970 back by being a burden. I don't think anything slower than a 430 will hold that card back in currently released PhysX supported games.

Yeah, I wouldn't even bother with the 640. It was already considered quite slow when it came out, and It's downright garbage now that there are cards 2-3x faster than it with similar power draw (GTX 750/Ti). On top of that, Maxwell has architectural improvements that make it faster for PhysX compared to Fermi/Kepler cards of similar gaming performance.
Its going to to depend on the game and settings but yes a gt430 could severely hold back a gtx580 from getting the most out of phsyx and would be a laughable limitation for a gtx970. I have no doubts a gt430 handling physx would be slower than a gtx970 doing both graphics and physx.Do you have anything to back this up or are you just pulling this out of your rear? We've had threads in this and other forums that show a 430 is an excellent card to use for PhysX. The Op's proposing 2 different cards that are way better than a 430 and should be great Dedicated PhysX cards for a GTX 970 or 960 setup. Where did you learn that running a card such as a 640 or 760 for dedicated PhysX will hold back a card like a 970 and a 970 will perform better without them?
Right now we're back and for as to which card to use for PhysX alongside the OP's GTX 970 or 960/960Ti (if the op waits)
