GTX 680 Issue

As I had already posted on this thread I have been experiencing problems with my 680. Its a Direct CUII Top version and I am having problems running the card at max setting in a few games with good fps. Recently I have been having problems with my power supply and had changed it to a Seasonic X760 80 Plus Gold. This seems to have solved my problems a lot but I am still experiencing occasional frame drops in few games like Crysis 2 and Starcraft 2. I have tried Metro 2033 and getting 45 to 60 fps avg maxed out at 1080. Moreover the power target does not seem to exceed 90% even during stressful games. Is there something wrong with my card or drivers?. FYI, the card is overclocked 1331 Boost/ 3105 Memory..... I have searched countless forums and many are experiencing this issue with the new 600 series cards. I have yet to find a solution for this and its pretty damn annoying with a 500$ video card...:mad:....
 
What's the actual problem you are worried about? Frame rate drops when gaming, or the fact that the power target doesn't exceed 90%? The first can be caused by other things in your system (like background processes running, or limitations with streaming data off a hard drive, and the second is normal - almost no game is going to draw over 100% power target.
 
Oh I see, :D..... I was under the impression that something abnormal was happening with my card and mine alone.... Anyway I tried Crysis 2 with the 306.23 beta with vsync off and it runs smooth but there is horrible tearing all over the screen which is disgusting.... do you think this Vsync issue is due to the immature drivers or something else?.... Metro 2033 seems to be very smooth 60 fps with DOF off.... The only games I am having problems with right now are Starcraft 2 and Crysis 2.....
 
I would try either adaptive vsync. or see if u can cap your framerate in these games. type sys_maxfps=50 in crysis 2 command line or autoexec and that should stop the tearing.
 
How do I open the command window in Crysis 2?.... Plus, I want to know whether most of you owners out there of the 600 series cards get fluctuating power target values during gaming?... mine does not stay constant.... I am wondering whether the card is starved of power and not able to render properly and eventually stutters in certain games.... weirdly after I increased the power target to 120% I get a max power target usage of 90% in MSI afterburner... at stock power target settings I used to get 79%.... dunno whether that made a difference to the frame rate but just an observation....:confused:.....
 
The power number does vary doing gameplay - during more demanding scenes it'll go up. I've never seen a game exceed 100% power that I can remember - BF3 would get into the 90s though.
 
Good, I guess I have to try with different combinations of Vsync in game and on the Control Panel to see how it affects the fps.... Kinda annoying when you dont get the performance on the get go with an enthusiast card... curses Nvidia :mad:.....
 
Guys, I have found the solution :D... the holy grail I should say...:p.... It was the friggin Power target.... it was at 100% for the overclocks I had done... 1360 Mhz boost... I now manually set this card to 132% and there is no sign of throttling atleast in Crysis 2 and the game runs at 60 fps constant even when the seph are staring at you when you shoot them very close :D....This card overclocks friggin awesome...:eek:...... I think that I can even go higher than this 1500 perhaps....??... have to see... the amazing thing is even at those overclocks and power target the card runs a cool 63 degrees under max load and idles at 33 .....:eek:..... sorry to sound thick but I think that I have finally solved my problems.....Hope I dont have to fight with this card anymore....

One last doubt guys.... will I fry the card if the power target is kept at 132% or is it just ok to do that?....
 
You overclocked to 1300+ without maxing out the power target? Thats like... the first step of overclocking a keplar card.....

Its not a holy grail... its just a major part of the process that you left out.

Im glad that you are excited though! I love my 680 immensly!
 
yeah I guess I did not know since this is the first time I am gaming with such a high end card..... cant wait for the upcoming games so that I can play those with this beast.....:D
 
How much do you guys suggest I set the power target for an overclock of 1350 / 6500 ?... Is 132 enough or should I increase it?. Afterburner lets me go till 150% for my card but I am not sure if I should.....

Just max it out - the card still won't use that much, but it'll prevent throttling.
