Hello all,

I'm current in the midst of planning a massive PC upgrade. I've already gone ahead with the i7 3770k core, it maybe a little outdated but i'm hearing that the newer X79 boards can have a little issue, and i've had and used the 1155 boards and the 3770k before, so thats my choice. Now I just need a card.

I'm going to be using a singular 22" LCD LED monitor with a standard 1920 x 1080 resolution, but I will eventually be upgrading to dual-screens.

I was wondering how the EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Ti Superclocked 2GB GDDR5 would fan out. I'm not made of money, so the 680 is far out of reach, but I want a card that will suffice for at least a year or so. I'm not a big gamer, I still play CoD4:MW. However the newest game I own is Guild Wars 2, and it would be nice to get off the lowest graphic settings for once in my life.

I've heard these cards are a waste of money from a lot of sources, but i've also heard the card is great from a lot of sources, especially for the money, so i'm at a standstill.
Any ideas / help? I would be willing to raise my budget by a hundred or so at a push, if you felt it would REALLY benefit me, otherwise the rough cost of the 660 (£180-£230) is what i'm aiming for here.

Let me say first of all that I'm not completely sure, but I believe that you can't do surround gaming with only two displays. You need three.

So in the context that you'd only be gaming on a single monitor, the 660 Ti should curb-stomp almost anything you throw at it.
 
Yeah, I wasn't completely sure on that either, but I felt like people should know about the plan, just in case that would effect it at all, as the monitors will probably be used for something like 1080p video on one side and gaming on the other.

But that's good to know, thanks, anymore input is still welcome!
 
I own a 660 Ti and two 1440p displays. It should be more than adequate for maxing out Guild Wars 2 at 1080p. I should note though that when you are running two displays off of one video card, there can be a performance impact if you run your games in window mode (though you should, it is a very convenient when you have multiple displays).
 
Yeah, that's noted. I PLAN to get two cards, in the far away future, to help with the dual-monitor issue, but I mean to be honest, the dual screen will probably be Guild Wars 2 in one screen, and you tube in another, or facebook in the other, i'm not going to be doing anything too heavy for my machine to slow it down that much (hopefully)!
 
If you're not a 60 fps freak, a 660ti will play mostly anything right now at over 30fps maxed out in 1080 (except aa), even farcry 3...:)
 
I just want to mention that sometimes you can get a 670 on sale for around retail of the 660 Ti. I know it doesn't help you with you being in Europe, but, e.g., the Galaxy 670 GTX is on sale at TigerDirect today for about $305 after rebate, which I guess is near 190 GBP. But maybe places in your area have similar sales on occasion.
 
I was talking to a few friends, and they advised that if possible, for terms of future-proofing (as much of a setup for failure that is), a 670 maybe better if I can stretch to the price of an extra £50-or-so. And I'm taking that into consideration a lot too.

At the moment, it's a choice between:


MSI GeForce GTX 670 TwinFrozr IV PE/OC 2GB GDDR5 (£305)

EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW 2GB GDDR5 (£305)

Or


MSI GeForce GTX 660Ti TwinFrozr IV PE/OC 2GB GDDR5 (£240)

It's a hard call. In reality I wouldn't mind spending the extra money if I knew that it would make a good difference to my gaming. I would like to be able to play games smoothly for most of the time while on good settings, as all my gaming life i've been on low / poor settings with very bad FPS. And if the 670 will give me an extra drop of noticeable power then it's money well spent, especially if i'm thinking of expanding displays.
