GTX 580 SLI issues

Hello all,

I just finished upgrading my gaming rig, Im using a MSI Big bang Xpower motherboard and dual MSI GTX 580 cards.

Now here is my problem, when i have both cards installed windows comes to a crawl for some reason. When i try to install drivers and enable SLI the system becomes completely unusable black screens start flashing. When i reboot, i get code 43 on my device manager it the message reads "windows has disabled this device because of a malfunction" something along those lines.

When i remove one of the cards everything works perfectly fine, i have ran 3dmark on both cards, they both work fine INDIVIDUALLY. I was hoping MSI tech support would be able to help me pin point the problem, but they were completely useless.

Maybe im missing something? maybe i installed drivers in the wrong order? bios setting? im just not sure what to think. Any advice, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
 
Im using a corsair AX 1200. from what i have read that should be enough.
 
Hmm on the Loaner Corsair 1000W unit I have, I had to plug in my 480 in SLI on one side and the rest of the computer components on the other side. I am not sure if your 1200 unit works that way also. To me it seems power related.

I'll give that a shot. Thanks for the advice.
 
It could very well be a power-draw issue. In the manual which came with your psu there should be a diagram/text section explaining the optimum order to power your sli cards.

Just out of curiosity, which OS version (X86 or X64) are you running and how much system memory do you have?
 
Besides the fact that this does sound like a power issue, check the realtek nic drivers of your motherboard. The newer drivers seem to cuase an issue with Fermi SLi. Try rolling back the driver to see if it helps, or disable the realtek nic and use a secondary one if available. Also check your bios settings and make sure primary vga is set to pcie and everything else in bios is set correctly. Finally if available flash the latest bios on your motherboard. If all of that fails remove any other cards you may have that are in the pcie slots e.g. sound card etc...
 
Thanks for all the advice guys, after updating bios pulling out ram sticks, trying the graphic cards on another PC, i was able to figure out what the issue was. BAD memory slot on the Mobo. i just wish i would of figured it out sooner, D'OH!
