gtx 480 overheating on startup

I have 2 gtx 480s in sli and both have kuhler 620s on them,

The other day I booted up the machine and the bottom card started to get crazy hot and hits 110c within minutes even if not doing anything and then shuts off.

Running just the overheating card without sli same thing happens.

So far I've formatted my machine and reapplied paste. Can't figure out why it heats up so fast.

I've googled but couldn't find an answer :(

Anyone have any ideas what could be going on here? Is the card toast?
 
That's not normal. I'd say that if the cooler is working fine the card is defective. At least it would be relatively cheap to replace these days.
 
Sounds like one of your coolers died. Try moving the cooler from the good card to the bad card. I bet the problem follows the water cooler.
