so my brother has a GTX 460 768mb. sine he upgrade his windows 8 to 8.1 he had to upgrade display drivers to run League of Legends. however, randomly now the gfx cards freezes and you can heard the fan spinning really fast. its been dusted out, but the issues still comes back. this doesnt happen often, but once every few days. he wants to replace/upage his card anyways, but too broke atm haha. hopefully the gfx card and the forced resets are not slowly killing his system. any inputs? thanks.

Yeah I've read some posts in passing about the quality of the latest Nvidia drivers taking a dive for the 400-series, so much so that I have not upgraded my drivers in months.

Still running 314.07 on my GTX 460 1GB. No crashes in Planetside 2, Skyrim, Borderlands 2, but I can't comment on League of Legends.

It's still possible the card is dying (most likely 3+ years old), but I would play the driver rollback game first. Also remove any overclocks you have on the system.

I use a 560GTX SE on my HTPC that has windows 8 /32 bit and it runs great .. just havn't did the upgrade yet to 8.1 on that system but I do run 8.1 on my R9-290 and have had no issues.

After upgrading my girls rig to 8.1 LoL froze randomly on her 580 with the most current drivers.

Turns out there were additional updates to windows not installed by default after 8.1

Did a manual update to windows, restarted, game hasn't crashed since.

Yea my brother was in the same boat. windows 8.1 crashed my LOL, so he was forced to update. I checked and he doesnt have any updates going and still has "the latest drivers".. :(

I'll try a roll back, hopefully it doesnt lead back to a crashing LOL

Thanks guys
