I believe you. Sometimes hardware-related issues are unresolvable. Too bad nothing worked out. I guess you need to find what's causing the incompatibility in your system and replace the component. Hopefully it's not the motherboard.

Im 90% sure its the mobos chipset.

And i wont be replacing it until 6/8 core xeon processors are out w/ dually mobos.

Its a Dell Precision 690 board
With a dell XPS 720 1000w PSU

When I built it the thought was:

Ah so you did end up replacing the PSU. I've had both cores of my 9800GX2 folding with my 690, I ordered a GTX295 a month ago but haven't received it yet, damn things are out of stock everywhere. I've currently have both gpus folding on my 5400 chipset board. I'll certainly try out the GTX295 with my 690 when I finally get it.

Does the 720 PSU have 8 pin PCIe power connectors?

IDK how your order is, but I have mine in the FS forum. Got car broke into and need the cash. But considering you probably have same board I do, it prolly wont fold for you either.

Well, it'll be going in my P6T6 Revo, but I'll try it in my 690. My 690 has the nForce 100 riser card for SLI though, so it may make a difference. BBFB is still trying to find a GTX295 for me, they have 4 listed on their site and they "shipped" me one, but it ended up being a GTX 285, so I had to send it back and am waiting to see what they can come up with next. In the meantime, I picked up 2 GTX 260 Maxcores to use.

Sorry to hear about that car, that sucks. With this economy, break-ins are going to be on the rise.

No, he's doing 2 - 6 pin PCIe to 1 8 pin PCIe. Motherboard has 2 - 24 pin connectors for power, no 8 or 4 pin 12V power.

None of those power the mobo. my card has an 8pin and a 6pin
so:
6pin--->8pin adaptor--->GTX 295
6pin--->8pin adaptor-^^^
6pin--->GTX 295

God if you put an 8pin PCIe into a CPU power slot it would fry the shit out of your mobo.

Yes, but I was under the impression you were using a PCI-E 6-pin--->CPU 8-pin adapter. TBH, I'm still a bit unsure how you had everything powered up since I don't have Dell systems.

I never seen that. I usually purchase boards separately and they tend to have the more common 24+8+4 combination of power connectors.

Yeah, you're right, it is a 24 and 20. Then 4 more 2 pin connectors for each of the memory risers and another 8 pin for the nForce 100 riser card. Too many freakin connectors...
Agreed, and it makes swapping/replacing PSUs a real %$^#%.
