I recently sold my GTX 285 2GB to a friend of mine for $150 (I bought the thing in near-perfect condition for $100 more than a year ago, so I was happy with $150). Anyway, I was wondering what the best upgrade within the $300-$350 price range would be, I game @ 1920x1080. I really enjoyed the peace of mind the 2GB provided, and I would prefer not to drop down to 1GB. Is a HD6950 2GB the best option? How much of a performance increase will I see coming from a GTX 285? I plan on purchasing a replacement within the week, so your input is appreciated!

Look at benchmarks and compare the GTX460 to the 6950. The GTX460 and GTX285 are very close in performance.

HD6970's typically about 50% faster than the GTX285, but obviously can be unlocked into an HD6970 (potentially) which will mean about a 65% increase instead of 50%.

In your price range there are only 2 possible options, the 6950 and 570. The 570 has 1.25GB RAM but that shouldnt be an issue unless you plan on moving up from 1920x1080 resolution in the near future.

You should be fine with either card, but the 6950 is a bit better value atm.

Your best bet right now is the GTX 560 Ti, it's up there with 5870 etc. MSRP: $250, pocket the $100 and take the lady out for some filet mignon and lobster dinner.

HD6950 1GB or GTX560 Ti. The HD6950 is a better card, and similarly priced, so that'd be my choice.
