hmm take out the dx 11 and all that extra stuff.. whats the performance difference between the two a gtx 280 vs a hd 5850? does the hd 5850 perform 20% better?

You're talking single monitor resolutions, DX10 games, 1 card vs 1 card, Apples to Apples straight up? Good question. I'd have to go digging through the reviews to see if the GTX280 made it into any of the initial testing lineups when the first 5850's hit [H]

Yep lol straight up power vs power at 1920x1080 =] trying to see if it's worth it to jump to a HD 5850

Sometimes it performs 20% better or more and sometimes worse but never by much.

You can compare it directly to GTX275 for the most part. You could use the TPU reviews too.

5850 is significantly more powerful than a 285. so the same would hold true of a 280. If you want to stick with nvidia, the 470 is also an option if you can get a good coupon or bing cashback discount.

For $300, I wouldnt think the performance gain from a 5850 would be worth it really. Even though its nearly $100 more, a 5870 would be a better "upgrade".

To me, paying $300 for a 10-20% increase aint worth it.

thanks time to wait i guess =] hehe i was playing just cause 2 everything max etc i get around 30 fps at 1920x1080
