GTX 280 Temperature question

I am aware of these cards running at high temps but took the risk to get one anyway. Just want to ask what you guys think of the temp readings I’m getting as I am wondering if I have a problem or not.

In Farcry 2 the temperature seems to settle between 85 to 90 degrees but the thing starts to sound like a turbine! I game at 1900 x 1200 and have the settings on high.

I ran the Furmark tool in 1900 x 1200 MSAA disabled and the temp got to 90 degrees after 70 secs and disturbingly rose to 100 degrees at 255 seconds. I stopped the test at this point as I was worried about damaging the card.

I have about 3 fans going at this card and have kept the case open to see if this brings things down a bit but no joy. I would be happy if it stayed around 75 degrees ideally as the fan doesn’t sound to intense at this point.

So basically does this sound pretty normal or am I looking at returning the card?

90 C is on the high side for sure...

105C = RMA.

Make sure you have lot's of air flow...

I think in a well-ventilated case, with a 280's fan set to 100%, in a 70F room, your load temp running Crysis will be around 70C. (That is the low end for a loaded 280)

In a less than ideal case, or lower GPU fan speed, or higher room temp will make it go up from there. 80 isn't too bad...

This might help you?

Make sure to check out the OP's pictures, This one is a good shot:

If you have room for an extra fan to help force more air into your card, it may lower your temp...Good luck.

yeah i'd be very lucky to get 70 degrees with this card. i put a few more fans in and it stablised at around 83 in Crysis.

strange thing is i tired to load up Furmark again to do another test but the image is a mess, completely corrupted so i dont know what that means. no image problems in games. is Furmak a completely reliable tool?

one other thing is for some reason the card made a high pitched squeeling sound while in the Crysis menu? its gone now but was a little disconcerting

With 2 in SLI running 702/1404/2448 (1224 DDR) I hit the mid 80s in with Crysis running 2560x1600 with all the eye candy...

The fans certainly kick up. From everything I've read, they can take it. The TDP is pretty high on these things...

I've noticed my bottom card in my SLI configuration hits about 75*C under load, but the top card is getting choked for air. It's hitting almost 90*C!

Any tips on what I can do about this?

I would manually control the fan. I use a low setting in windows, and then crank it up quite a bit for any gaming.
