Well, subject line says it all. Bought it when they first came out and it ran great till now. Nice GPU output for F@H.

Anyway, I need to RMA it back to BFG. I've ordered a 4870x2 as a replacement. Does the ATI client allow for mult-gpu folding? If not, what kind of output can I expect from this ATI card.

If anyone is interested in purchasing my RMA return just drop me a note.
 
That sux! Why would you downgrade from a 280 OC to a 4870X2? Seems illogical to me. That and I'm a die hard nVidia fan.
 
For folding, it's a downgrade but for gaming, it's slighty better or equal ;)

I'm also a nvidia fanboy but I'm realistic, not blind :D

 
depends on the games mrboomy.. of course the games that are designed for nvidia drivers are going to do better on a nvidia card.. but the games that are neutral seem to do a whole lot better on the 4870x2.. crysis will always be an exception in the whole nvidia vs ati fight.. sure nvidia does better then ati but in the end nvidia still doesnt do that great on that game.. none the less the only thing that games good for is benchmarking cards..

now if only standford would stop putting so much time into the nvidia portion of the F@H gpu folding and actually spend a little time on the ATI side of the gpu2 client.. we would see some much more equal numbers..
 
I'll bet that most people (or gamers for that matter) couldn't tell the difference if you put 2 computers in front of them - 1 280 and 1 4870X2.

OP - That ATI card will treat you good till you get your replacement back. :) Good luck with the RMA. Check out this thread for multi-gpu setups. Im sure someone will chime in if this method works with 4870X2's as Im not 100% sure myself.
 
Thanks for the comments guys. I think I'll keep the 280 and put it in my second system that's currently running a 8800 GTX......if I can talk the wife into it.......she wants me to sell the 280 to offset the purchase price of the x2.

+1. I understand folding, but on my gaming rig, it's about game play
