Hello all,

I have just ordered the computer listed below in my signature. I wanted to first of all thank all of you that have given me your input over the years, as I have on more than one occasion, asked for advice on many computer builds. I just never ordered one until this weekend. I know some of the parts are more for looks than performance, not that they don't perform well....but I know there are better or cheaper componants that perform equally as well, if not better, then some of the items I ordered. I ordered some of them do to "combo" deals through newegg.....and honestly I jsut liked the way they I think they will look when I put the system together. I did do enough research though, so even if I bought some of these items based on looks...i do know they perform very well.....(e.g. CM V8).

I wanted to get one more piece of advice. as you can see by my sig, I got the SC version of EVGA's GTX 275. What I wanted to know is even though my power supply has the connections for it, do you all think it could handle another identical 275 for an SLI set up? I think it should, but wanted advice before ordering another one. I just figured I have the cash, and this is a brand new build....so why not blow my mind away and go for a SLI'd 275 set up. Do you think my PS can handle it?

FYI....I am going from a Dell 1520 laptop with a 8600M GT 256mb video card to the system in my sig.....I CANNOT WAIT!:D ....but I really want the 2nd 275 if my PS will handle it.

Thanks in advance for any and all input.

A quality 700Watt PSU can handle it. I'm not sure if that's a quality PSU or not though. I don't keep up with PSUs, I just buy Corsair because I know they are good. You should be pulling about 500-550 Watts fully loaded depending on how much you OC, etc.

I should have been a little more specific, sorry. When I get my rig put together, I plan on OCing the I7 to just around 3 and change. I'm not going for the 4.2 on air overclock like others have. A small OC to just over 3 is all i want.

With that in mind, I have read reviews and the power supple I ordered, CM UCP 700w, seems like a quality PS. I just wanted to see if everyone think it can handle my sig with the addition of another GTX 275 OC edition.

cooler master is a good brand and it should work. the 275's take i think 175w each during load.

That's what I have it figured at....and at Newegg, the PS says it's SLI certified and it has 4x6-pin PCI-E connectors. I know that doesn't meet shit, but I figured I chould be ok. It's probably pushing it though huh?

.....o well...i guess I'll run the one 275 for now and when the price comes down a bit i will pick up another and see how it works. So FYI.....i might be selling a 700w Cooler Master UCP power supply in the near future!

I haven't had too much input on this question...not to be a nuisance, but I wanted to get this thread up top again so more [H]'s get a chance to look at it.

Again, my question is with the rig I have in my sig below.....can I get another GTX 275 SC edition and run it with the PS i have in my system?

I just want to add another 275....i jsut don't know if my PS can handle it with all that its powering ATM....

Thanks again in advance....

Two 280s and a 285 folding 24/7 gets up near 700watts showing on my APC.
I like having extra headroom and not taxing my PSU near it's max.

thanks for the replies gents...anyone else have any idea....my system isnt crazy overclocked either....just got the "dummy oc" turned on and my 275 is running at stock clocks

....not sure if that helps at all

It'll run fine, go for it. Your PSU already supplies the proper 4x PCI-E cables.

I've discovered the truth in this one or two times in my life about power requirements in general (not just for computers) - it's usually best to have more power than you need.

There's a heavily-overclocked Core i7 920 and 3 GTX 285s in tri-SLI, and power consumption under load is 660 watts. You should be totally fine with that PSU.

What is up with this ridiculous obsession with 1000W+ PSUs recently? Hell, it was only a few years ago that the first 500W PSUs came out IIRC.

P.S. get off my lawn!

Well, most people live by the rule that your PSU should be running under 80% capacity at full load. For that 660 watt system, that would mean a PSU rated at 825. Generally, you go from 750 Watts to a full 1K watt PSU. But I know what you mean, there are a lot of people using 750+ Watt systems that don't need it.

<-- Guilty

But only because my other PSU can't reach my MB's 2x2 header. Damn short cabled OCZ anyway!

You can always buy a psu that'll last you 2 or 3 builds. But to each his own, i don't feel comfortable having my system's ps running at 100% load. To op your ps should be fine, you should have room to spare.

Depends on your upgrade cycle I guess. Frankly, I've found that I've never bought a new CPU or Video card to put in an old motherboard. I've never bought a new OS to put on an old system, and I've never bought a new motherboard to pair with an old CPU or video card. I when i buy new, I buy all new. But my upgrade cycle is ~2 years. If you buy new video cards and water blocks every release cycle, then buying an extra strong PSU makes sense.

Thanks dude. I will be ordering one shortly...and thank you to all for your inputs.

...anyone know of any benchmarks for SLI'd 275's? I only found one by bjorn or something like that....through googling. I was hoping for more before I pull the trigger.
