Hey Hardforum

I am planning on purchasing a GTX 275, but for 75 dollars less I could get a GTX 260...

How much better is a 275 than the 260, I've seen the tech specs but I don't really understand the numbers. If someone could give me a benchmark review or comparison in a certain videogame that would be great.

Thanks

resolution will be 1920x1080

PSU is EA650 by antec

Also, would any of these graphics cards be limited on their performance (bottlenecked) by a Phenom II X4 810 Black Edition??

The GTX 260 can be found for $144 after bing 20% cashback at superbiiz.

Ok so the GTX 275 can be found for $182 after bing cashback at zipzoomfly.

The GTX 280 for $248 after 20% bing cashback at superbiz.

That's still a $66 dollar difference.
IMO the 275 gives better bang for the buck than the 285 and is quite strong at 1080p resolution.
Your processor should be fast enough not to bottleneck either card.
I assume you've got it overclocked to at least 3.0 ghz though.

The gtx 260 216 then is $38 cheaper than the 275.
Hmm the 260 is technically a better value. Although the price disparity is not as bad as 275 to 285. Up to you.

Whether the 260 is a 192 or 216 is really the concern for 75 bucks. If that's a 216 I would take that and safely overclock it, then put that 75 towards your next build or maybe take the lady out to eat twice. As an example I have 2x 260's each clocked to 730/1530/1100 and their performance is realistically the same or slightly better than a 275. I saved 120 on those and it went towards the next build that will be completed in a little bit. Real world wise I can't see a difference and when it comes to turning on AF I can't even tell it's on while playing the game, whereas AA I can, so I never take into account AF in benchmarks. That being said, the 260 is capable of running 4x AA whenever it's required.

Thanks for the responses

and to vjcsmoke, thanks for posting the deals however I don't think I'll purchase from superbiiz, seeing that their record for shipping and customer service isn't that great

Have 192s even been for sale in the past several months? It's been a looong time since I've seen one in a merchant's inventory... I know Nvidia stopped making them soon after the 216 was announced...

Ok, I believe that superbiiz is the same as ewiz from what I hear.
Just do a bing search and you can see what is the next best price.
I find that zipzoomfly and newegg are fairly reliable etailers, but their prices vary.

For $75 less I'd definitely take the GTX 260 and invest the rest elsewhere, dunno why the price disparity would be so high at this stage though... That's what it was at 4 months ago when the GTX 275 had just launched, the price of one or the other is skewed somehow wherever you're shopping for 'em.

Yeah there were a few on NewEgg a bit ago last time I checked as well as some at Micro Center. Not sure about Frys though.
