GTX 260 problem

Well Im hoping to find an answer here without having to buy a new video card but it isnt looking very good for me right now.
After I game hard for like 20-35 minutes the video card literally shuts off, but the rest of the computer is still running. The only way to get it to work again is to restart the whole computer.
My temps arent looking that bad at all...around 68-73c max and cpu looks fine. even tried it with the whole case open and still it crashed.
Is there any hope or should I just start looking for a new one?
this is an asus gtx 260 btw...everything is stock

I know your temps look fine, but a very thorough cleaning might be in order. Hell, reseating the card when you put it back in might even help. Couldn't hurt.
 
Yeah, try compressed air, and reseating the card and power plugs, etc. Could be something crazy like the psu even.
 
oh its a 1 year old 1000 watt power supply with modulars..forgot the name of it since Im at work right now...thinks it might be a bad modular? A friend of mine recently gave it to me since my 700 watt corsair died on me.
My video card is 18 months old...I do push it hard. not by overclocking but high resolutions 2048 X somthing

I believe your card has a 3yr warranty. Once you isolate the problem I would contact them,, or even contact them to help identify it.

yeah right...have you ever tried to contact them before? Their customer service is a joke. I was hung up on three times.

well I noticed that there was another pci express modular to use so i went ahead and plugged one of them into that and hosed down my vid card with compressed air and did some heavy gaming for 15 min without any problems but noticed my cpu temps got up to 64c (recommended max for AMD's Six-Core Phenom II X6 1090T is 61c)...so going to mount this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134 cooler up to it tonight. I noticed the stock fan is noisy and doesnt manage heat very well...does anyone recommend a better one? I got this one because it seemed the coolest and easiest to install. I cant believe how much trouble some of them are to mount up. Alot of them you have to disassemble everything to put a mount on the other side of the mother board!! is there a shortcut to this?? didnt think so

yeah thats a solid cooler. We mostly reccomend the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ but its $39.99 + fs, but on the other hand it comes with a tube of thermal paste and the arctic cooling only has a one time amount on the heatsink. It does outperform the arctic cooling cooler. so its really less than $5 diff and its better performance is totally worth that. Here is a link, Coolermaster Hyper 212+ $39.99 + fs
 
May cards sometimes do the same thing, normally a sign to thoroughly blast them out with compressed air, and re-seat them, and push the fans up to 65%, the cards don't normally get above 60 after that.
 
It can be a bad power supply not giving enough stable power to the card cause the temps shouldnt cause it to restart computer..i have same card.
 
well I had a bad weekend..my phenom 6 core fried and I sent it back to newegg and when I installed the dual core back in with the heath sink from above link the temp sensor for the cpu stopped working and the core temp say 0c??? any idea what happened here?

curious..how do you know it out performs the other heat sink and fan?? is there a comparison list somewhere??
 
Just do a google search for arctic cooling freezer 7 or what ever one you are interested in and choose results from enthusiast sites.
