GTX 260 help

650mhz core for asus vs 576mhz on the pny.. a no brainer.. get the top.

The TOP is an overclocked version of the regular GTX260. You can try overclocking the PNY card, though no guarantee that you'd get as far as the ASUS . I'd go with the PNY since it's a good brand and dirt cheap ($50 cheaper when you include free shipping).

Nice call on a questionable overclock.

Yea, well after seeing the review for the ASUS TOP card, I don't think frame rate increases are worth $50 extra, especially since you can try and squeeze more performance out yourself.

Again, you are guessing as to what can be had out of the PNY. The asus is a sure deal. The PNY is questionable. More is always better, it extends the card's expected lifetime.

If you notice, my main point is that the ASUS is not worth the extra $50 and the performance gains that come with it. A higher clock speed won't extended a card's lifetime by anything nearly significant. The ASUS doesn't have any additional stream processors/ROPs/texture units/memory which would be a factor in increasing the lifespan.

Ok, let's get down to the nitty gritty - the 260 top gives +8ps @ 1920x1200 in cod4 and pushes it past the 4870. It's up to the op to decide if that is worth $50. Personally, I think it is.

I'm not saying that the TOP is a bad choice, I'm saying that it's not my personal choice. So I agree with you that it's up to the OP.

I never Had a good quality PNY card. Asus on the other hand is unquestionable. I would go ASUS on name reliability / loyalty. I had to present this side of the story. PNYs RAM is garbage and their Video Cards are no better

so you have a problem with the PNY sticker because that is the ONLY difference in reference cards. the quality or reliability is the same as all other brands because there is no difference.

other than that warranty and customer service is very important. I did have PNY 6600 fan start making noise after a year and a half and PNY were very easy to deal with it and I had a new 6600 in about 10 days from the time I called in.

i got a pny 260, got it running at 720/1440/1200, from my experience the "factory OCed" cards usually suck at overclocking.

Right... That's why none of my PNY cards ever had any problem and my company's design department has about 40 PNY Quadro FX cards that have been running non-stop all this time with no problems.

Get a cheap vanilla eVGA. Mine's doing 725/1450/1250 rock solid and cool. And ya get the step-up.
