I'm going to be buying a GTX 260 to use as my backup video card and my PhysX card for my rig because I got a pretty good deal on it. I'm also going to watercool my 480s but I'm not sure if it will be worth it to watercool the 260. Do PhysX cards get that hot or noisy? What's the generaly noise level of the GTX 260?

physx cards don't get too warm. physx is processed much like say folding. however, physx in games puts brief, but full loads on the card. never enough to get temps up at all.

No need to include the ppu in the loop.

This^^

I locked my 9800GTX+ fan at, a nearly silent, 35% when it was used as a PhysX card. It never got hot at all. It would spike up for a second or five at a time, but never once climbed up as high as the temps one would consider normal for it while being used to render a game, even at only 35% fan speed.

Good idea. I'll see if I can set a fan profile for it. There's no way I want to watercool my 480s and then have to deal with noise from the physx card, LOL.
