Weird issue and it seems I am not the only one. I am using the 417 driver but this is not the issue. THis issue has been around since the 35X drivers.

Basically at boot my screen will post BIOS if connected to DP but after that it won't get me to the Windows loading screen

I have no issues if I plug my monitor directly into the HDMI port.

I have two screens and the second screen is a TV which only has HDMI. I'd rather not have to reach around my computer everytime I need to restart it

I've seen Windows sometimes default to a second display (or even the mobo integrated port) for some reason.

Have you tried with only your monitor connected? Meaning unplug the TV HDMI but leave the monitor on DP.

You can also get a DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter for cheap for your TV as well.

The issue with DP to HDMI is that depending on the adapter, you won't be able to get HDR. I actually was using DP to HDMI for my TV but the one I had couldn't give me HDR.

And yes before I actually shut down my computer, I set my DP monitor as my main. It was just now I started noticing that despite anyhting I do, HDMi will be the one WIndows loads on. From the research I did, it seems Nvidia boot priority is VGA->DVI->HDMI->DP

And even though I don't have anything plugged into my HDMI, because of prbly some UEFI stuff, I can't access DP. I have also adjusted my Nvidia CP to maximum performance in case the DP output is shut down in low poower state. Still no joy

It would appear in the brief time I have that I will need to either get a DVI to HDMI adapter or DVI to DP adapter to be able to drive my Dell display. Other than that, I might need to get caught up with the times and upgrade my system. I won't be doing that anytime soon. System overhaul these days are expensive and my main need for my PC is being served with the 1080 Ti primarily. Despite how old my CPU is

And sure enough, despite not being the main display, my Korean DVI monitor was the one that loaded into Windows. Seeems everybody wants me to move on from X58

Maybe just try a new adapter. If you get one that is HDMI 2.0 compatible I should be in spec.

I just tried the 2 adapters I have and HDR doesn't work, but I think I bought them a few years ago so that makes sense.

Here are a few I found that look like they will work:

Thanks I will check those out. the one I was using was so that might have been the issue with HDR:

That's the same one I have. It doesn't support HDR.

If you look on the Amazon page it says: "Does not support HDR displays"

Yeah when I got it, the TV i had didn;t have HDR. I just forgot that was why. I also kinda assumed all HDMI 2.0 cables support HDR

Have the same exact problem on my MSI motherboard.

Try changing the card's slot.

They all do. But you forget that converter has two ends.

The problem is the DisplayPort 1.2 connection. doesn't support HDR. They added that support in later versions.

Unfortunately, that means the first- eneration DP => HDMI 2.0 don't support HDR color mode.

This adapter is the only one on the market that supports the new DP 1.4 HDR mode:
