GTO and GTO2...

Both cards in stock form a re very similar. 12 piplines , etc. Its in the modding that the difference comes through.


The Sapphire GTO2 uses the R480 core and 1.6NS ram taht is identicle to the X850 XT PE card and can be Bios flashed and Oced to match taht card easily. The 12 pipleines can be unlocked to 16.

The GTO uses an older core that cannot be unlocked like the GTO2 but is a decent overclocker anyways. They use the 2.0ns ram and they cannot be unlocked to 16 pipes as there arent the other 4 pipes present to unlock no matter what.( some Connect3d GTO cards have the extra pipes and can be unlocked but the success rate is not 100% like the GTO2 and the ram is 2.0 NS so not as nice)

If you can find a GTO2 at a reasonalbe price, they are getting harder to find, its a better choice. But time is running out on them. There are only so many Sapphire has cores for before they are gone or they start using a diff core to power them.
 
haha i knew i was gonna get screwed with the GTO i just bought.

although it is the connect3d and on newegg they have reported good OCs as well as the ability to unlock.
 
the connect3d gto is a good one, unlockable and o/c's well but it's the r423 (x800 series) core vs the r480 (x850) core in the sapphire gto2, and it also has slower ram (2.0ns vs 1.6ns). The only real difference between the r423 and the 480 is that the r480 should o/c a little better (and costs a little more)...In real practice, the connect3d gto can usually o/c to close to the same speeds as the sapphire gto2 on the core (from what I've seen) but not the memory. My card will o/c pretty well considering it's in an sff with the stock cooler.
