GTA: SA crashes when loading?

Hello all. I've got the Steam version of GTA: SA, and it was working perfectly for the longest time. But now, it seems whenever I come upon a loading screen (where the screen goes black for a second), it crashes there and never goes out of the black screen. If I alt+tab out, I see a "Rockstar Games Presents" on a black background. Any ideas what might be causing this? It isn't the initial-load problem as I've had that before and solved it. System specs are in my sig, but I doubt that's the problem since everything else I do works perfectly.
