Depends on what you are paying and what you are playing at?

Its hard to justify a 6800 Ultra with the 7800GTX at hundred dollars more, when it comes to MSRP

GT's are at least 350 and 1000Mhz, with some higher.
Ultras are at least 400 and 1100, with some higher.

Most GT's can overclock to ULTRA or faster speeds. I know my GT goes to 415/1100 which is like getting an ULTRA for $100 less. I'd say the ULTRA is not worth the extra money infact is just a way to make more money for those who are ignorant. The difference in speed is probably under 3-5%. Noone would be able to tell the difference in the game. If your debating between the GT and the ULTRA go with the GT for the money. Your just wasting your money if you get the ultra.

While the GT is clearly a better buy, I would not call Ultra buyers ignorant. Since 9 times out of 10 the o/ced Ultra can reach much farther then the GT and at resolutions at like 1600x1200 and higher is where the Ultra starts to show a performance advantage quite clearly

However, with the 7800GTX in stock at places like ZZF for $600 and offering a huge performance increase, it would just be foolish to buy a new, $425 6800U. As it stands, the 7800GTX is high-performance king, and it's only $175 more than the Ultra. For $300, the 6800GT's are the budget-but-still-great-performing cards. If you're already going to spend $425 on the Ultra, shell out the extra cash.
