Been having some stability trouble lately, happens sometimes in games, sometimes just doing stuff in Windows 7 64bit.
I'll suddenly get a white screen or grey. Have to power off and on again, completely unresponsive, but oh, I can sometimes hear sound keep going in the background.

I read a bit about this before, and seems I'm not the only one. What's weird is that I've used this rig for a long time and it's first now lately I've been having these issues.
I've tried latest drivers, older ones, etc. It's not OC'ed beyond factory OC. And besides, when it crashes in Windows, the clocks are very low anyways. Usually 400/300 or something, sometimes 400/1200.

I've ordered a new card so I will be trying that and see if it really is the 5870 before I try RMA.

I know AMD came with a hotfix or something at one time, but that's many drivers ago, was there ever any other official response or solution, is it just bad cards and RMA will fix it or?
 
Almost certainly a faulty card. GSODs haven't been driver related since catalyst 10.2.
 
Alright, now I just have to figure out where I bought it. Been looking all over for a receipt.
 
Since it's XFX, registered the card on their site for lifetime warranty. Then create a ticket number and the rest should be taken care of. I had a somewhat difficult time rma'n my card but everything worked out in the end.
 
Yeah, alright. Figured out where I bought it as well, so we'll see.

I'm just up and running with my new build (specs in sig) and installing win7, and I will run with this build for two weeks or so, to rule out that anything is wrong with my PSU. Because I've now replaced everything except for the PSU.

Once I've determined this new build is stable I'll put in the 5870 and see if I still get the same troubles, with sudden crashes to black or white or grey screen. If I do then it's definitely a faulty card and I can RMA. And sell the 460 maybe... 5870 seems to be a bit more powerful.
